Went out for a drive earlier, over the moors for a recce at the fire burning up there and get some pictures.
On the way back I came down quite a steep hill so coasting most of the way, 30 -40 seconds, only 20mph os so as it is single track and walled either side. As I got to the bottom and rounded the corner on accelerating the car just revved with no drive, backed off checked I was in gear (D) which it was, tried again, nothing just revved as though in neutral. On the third attempt the car moved forward and drove away. However, all the way home, about 2 miles, the box didn't seem to have a clue as to which gear it should be in, hunting up and down erratically, don't recall any error messages being displayed.

The car is a 2013 model, 18 months old with 32k miles, has anyone experienced similar, I know there has been an action in the past on auto boxes with a slip condition but not heard of it on later ones.

Obviously will see how it goes tomorrow and get LRA to it if needed, has anyone else experienced similar?

Not experienced on FL2 but had very similar symptom years ago on a Granada Scorpio immediately before the torque converter failed....hope not, for your sake, but that's what mine was then. 2011 SD4 HSE Auto

Hmm, torque converter possibly, it didn't rev hard as it would in neutral, it was as if something was connected just not driving, let's see what tomorrow brings ...

Check it out tomorrow then LRA if necessary then - the Granada's drive expired very quickly after the first slurred/failed selection - about a mile. So may be something different but I'd get it checked out (needed recon box as the debris from converter failure damaged the box too!). 2011 SD4 HSE Auto

You were in motion or stationary when the box seemed to not function properly and just rev up?
If in motion, possible the box was stuck in a lower gear (1st, possibly 2nd) and the engine RPM was not enough generate traction. Meaning drivetrain RPM was higher than engine RPM.
The later hunting could be generated by the "bad manners" "learned" during the long steep descent.
Coasting is one of the functioning modes of the box.
Keep an eye on it, but I don't believe it's a real problem.

I was in motion Alex, about 10 mph, the engine rpm rose to around 3000rpm, I lifted the throttle and the revs dropped, the car was also slowing as I was now going up hill, tried again, again the revs rose and no drive, I checked I was in D and tried again, the third attempt and I had drive.
I have been on a 100 mile round trip earlier in the day, mostly in S on twisty Cheshire roads, behaved fine until this evening.

Yep, a temporary glitch in my opinion.
If you have had stopped, the box would have selected 1st and you wouldn't have experienced this.

The box has sometime a strange behavior on the lower gear(s), near 0 mph speeds. It doesn't properly select 1st, or at least not right away.
Happened to me several times, happened to a friend of mine with a Toyota Land Cruiser that also has Aisin box.

I have had something similar to that a couple of times.

Seemed to occur when starting the car and immediately freewheeling at a slow speed down a slope. It is like the drive is completely disconnected ie no engine braking so brakes are used. When drive is required it is like it is neutral and there is no drive.

Stop, fiddle about and then all seems well

Both times I have just put it down as "one of those things". Have never investigated or enquired further

I actually had this on the 14 plate loaner when mine was in for a service which may have contributed to my negative impression of the auto box. Going downhill, lifted off and coasted round the corner and then planted it to go up the other side of the hill and had no drive. Gave it a few pumps and after the second it carried on as normal.

Only have a few thousand on it.

All has been well today, so far, never happened on my previous car in 80,000 miles and on the same stretch of road.

Hopefully, as Alex says, a temporary glitch.

Happened with me a couple of days ago although I had it in 'S', I'm in Slovenia and engine was revving about 3000 rpm and probably in second coming down an alpine pass (without the caravan). Reached the bottom accelerated but it just revved as in neutral, slowed a bit more and the car engaged a gear and accelerated OK, changes were a bit lumpy for a few miles but has behaved itself since.
