TD4=150bhp (ish) and SD4=190bhp(ish).

At least from 2011 onwards I think. FL2 TD4 GS 60 reg Facelift - so many issues
2019 DS. Terribly unreliable.
Sold DS for a 2021 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV. Fingers crossed....
Sold Outlander for a 2014 SD4 SE Tech because I’m mental
Now greatly regret selling the Outlander. MPG of the FL2 is atrocious and so are the fuel bills. Fun though 😎
Couldn’t afford the fuel bills so back to an older Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV. Significantly better than I remembered it to be…

The wannabe/pretend Land Rover with 2wd drive is the ED4

LR's should always be 4x4 in my book Laughing

Isn't it the ed4 that is 2wd? My previous 2010 td4e was I'm sure 4wd and had the terrain response knob Current 2008 Freel2 HSE

Australia 2015 Freelander 2 SD4 HSE Auto Aintree Green

Only difference between Td4/SD4 is software/mapping. However the Td4e has different injectors along with starter motor, alternator and a few other electronics to cater for the stop/start.
Td4/sd4 420nm in overboost. Only difference is KW again software/mapping.
In Australia Freelander 2 all 4x4, never available as a 2wd, ie Ed4. Evoke was first to be available as 2wd.

Stuart.....think the turbo is different on the SD4 too, as well as mapping changes. 2011 SD4 HSE Auto

Nop! Absolutely the same. Only difference was between LR and other Brands use of this engine. LR used variable vane single turbo charger where the other brand/s used twin turbo chargers.
Again I'm strictly talking Td/sd. Td4e/ed4 different again due to stop/start system.
Also this commonality between the TD4 and sd4 was only from MY12 I think, not exactly sure about the Model year! Before this there was differences so check were talking about later models.

Engine differences ....
Speaking from hands on with my freelander 2010 TD4 auto; two years ago I fitted a replacement SD4 manual engine to the autobox.
SD4 has 25% larger turbo with water cooled centre bearing on a fabricated manifold.
SD4 has a larger and radically different EGR
SD4 has different flywheel rotation disc and pick up sensor.
SD4 has different part number injectors.
SD4 has inlet manifold without internal flaps.
.
I just changed all these bolt on parts for those of my TD4 including fitting my flywheel and blanked the turbo water outlet on the block.
.
That was all two years ago.......
.
Kind regards from Fred

Are there software upgrades available to take a TD4 to 190 like the SD4?
