My son has spoken with a colleague who has had two FL2s now with the diff/bearings problem, both at about 70k miles on an 09 and an 11 reg. LR Assist guy said that he has seen a few at 30k.

Can't remember what mine was, somewhere around 50k I think.
Didn't break down, just a noise and inconvenience.
Latest car is at 31k currently and so far quiet, tailgate handle has packed up, again an inconvenience, that will be addressed at the service in a week or so, all under warranty of course.

My rear diff was done in January, 58 plate td4 manual, at 42000, although that was after a few thou miles driving with the noise. Wonder if it'll come back, and if so when...

Just had word from garage. Mine wasn't tyre noise or diff or bearing. It was the transfer box. Thankfully getting replaced under extended warranty!

Funny but I had company cars for 25 years and ran up 80 or 90k miles before replacement and I never had a clutch go. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto
5 x FL2 4 manual + 1 auto
Now Discovery Sport P250 MHEV SE

Me too. Used to see how far I could go before the car had any significant issue as we had no firm replacement policy. Usually 180k or so, some never had any big problems & we just got rid eventually. In my view nothing of note should fail under 100k on a well maintained & sensibly driven modern car.

Wanted to follow up on my previous comments here. I have now had the transfer box replaced and the noise has gone. So despite it sounding like it was coming from the rear, it was coming from the front/middle. What a difference though - so quiet! FL2 TD4 GS 60 reg Facelift - so many issues
2019 DS. Terribly unreliable.
Sold DS for a 2021 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV. Fingers crossed....
Sold Outlander for a 2014 SD4 SE Tech because I’m mental
Now greatly regret selling the Outlander. MPG of the FL2 is atrocious and so are the fuel bills. Fun though 😎
Couldn’t afford the fuel bills so back to an older Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV. Significantly better than I remembered it to be…

I wonder if accidental selection of terrain response on tarmac could be behind some of this transmission failure. You would certainly expect some wind-up with resultant high loads.

hope not, I was playing with my TR settings while driving home last night to see what difference they made to throttle response etc. Shocked

exactly. But if for example that made the Haldex lock up more. I don't know enough about its behaviour in the different modes but someone will!

The whining noise on mine came in at 20-35mph then 45-60 then nothing more. mechanic took prop off and it was a lot quiter but as he said transfer box is still going round even on Front wheel drive only, put prop back on and noise is back straight away.
Its just like really loud tyre noise but changing all 4 tyres didnt alter it at all.
