90mph no problem.. we run along the tops of the lorries parked up for Operation Stack on the M20 .. police don't see us up there.. and why i got an off roader Cool

I'm quickly learning that the joy of running a FL far outweighs the cost of diesel .. allegedly. Thumbs Up

En route to Edinburgh this morning I accellerated to overtake and the engine management light came on with the warning message "reduced engine performance" FL2 is an MY13 with 25.5k on the clock. I brought the car home tonight 30 mls and arranged for a roadside assist call out. The service was excellent, constant updates on driver eta etc.
On hooking up the code reader he discovered a low fuel pressure due to blocked fuel filter. Guy enquires on where and when I last filled up and how much fuel was put in. TBH I always fill up at ASDA and was almost on empty when filled up a couple of days ago. He mentioned the finer mesh in the filters can clog up easier due to bio fuel. However reading some posts would suggest that's negligible.
Is it possible that filling from near empty would have disturbed sediment in tank to block filter? I wouldn't have thought there should be that much crap in the tank after 18mths.
Anyway he said they will feed all info back into the system and if there's a common thread such as the fuel etc they would contact the fuel company, or if it's a filter issue contact the supplier. Black edition! Previous FL1 04 Td4 3dr HSE.

never a good idea to let a diesel or a petrol for that matter run very low on fuel, but sometimes it can't be helped.

also never a good idea to fill up at Asda, but again sometimes it can't be helped.

with the car being a MY13 and only 25K miles I would lean towards bad fuel from Asda.

do you always use Asda ?

I nearly always fill up at Asda and have had no issues (so far) Rolling Eyes

Ive also just put 100ml of Millers into a full tank, and the difference in performance is astonishing. Much smoother accelaration from standing and during overtaking.

Ill run it with 100ml in each full tank (i fill to top once a week) for a month then drop down to 50ml and see what its like then.

Open to suitable chastisement from the more knowledgable if Im doing things wrong Bow down

Crud in the fuel tank is much less of a problem with modern plastic tanks.
The bio diesel itself doesn't clog the filter, but it has a cleaning effect on tank and pipework which can lead to problems. I've only heard of this however when running on high concentrations of bio (which are not suitable for our engine). The normal <10% mix which is now present in ALL diesel should not make a difference. Ex AA Series III LWB Safari - Gone

Now that Costco (Liverpool) sell fuel I have been using them, seems to be at 5p/l below best elsewhere.
With new (to me) 62 plate GS with stop/start getting 42mpg all round. This is according to onboard computer!
Engine sweet as a but so no issues with fuel quality. Freelander 2 XS+ TD4 Manual, Stornoway Grey

Around where I live there is very little variation in fuel prices at the moment, some independent garages cheaper than Tesco. Paid 119.9p at an Esso station last night. Fuel prices seem to be creeping up although oil price has stabilised at about $66 for past few weeks. Just bought 1000 litres of heating oil at 39.5p. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

friend of mine used to put heating oil into his old Astra diesel works van. reckoned it didnt make much of a difference other than the 1/2 price fuel.

I of course advised him that it was illegal and that he should stop it immediately Whistle

I know a guy with an old diesel van who buys cooking oil and mixes it with diesel. Probably only works on really old tech engines. Anyone care to try it with their beloved FL2 and report back? 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

He could have used a bit of whiskey too to up the octane level, bet thats not considered illegal?, only where they are losing out on tax revenue do they say its illegal?

Talking of revenue loss. There have been some cases where farmers have been fined for using red diesel for things like snow clearance and cutting local football pitches. It seems that it's only for agricultural use not off road use. Crazy?

didnt they used to call Red Diesel 'strawberry' down your way Dorset ?

I think its always been for agricultural and generator use only. In the military it used to be non coloured for everything. Back in the 90's guys used to 'acquire' fuel via the military system and drive back to UK with several full jerry cans in the boot.

If you looked in the ditches and hedgerows approaching Calais and Zeebrugge you would invariably see green jerry cans tossed away, must of cost the Army ££££££££
