12.4 volts, apparently that is too low? Do I need a particular battery for stop/start? 2013 Dynamic Santorini black

Yes, if replacing the battery you need an AGM battery. It needs to be 80 Ah. From memory I think the battery size code is 110. The battery are expensive compared to a normal lead acid battery but the AGM battery is designed for stop/start. I bought a Varta F21 and fitted it myself, cost me £135 from a local battery place and they price matched that from an online store. One thing to note, when searching online for batteries, when entering the car details many sites will show you 70 Ah batteries. These are no good, you need a 80 Ah with 800 CCA. Compared to my last car, a BMW 520D the Freelander stop/start comes on (starts) far more frequently and after a much shorter time, sometimes it doesn't operate at all. It will regularly start itself when waiting for a red light to change to green. It doesn't therefore give me the benefits of lower consumption I would expect.

The starter motor on the FL2 with Stop/start fitted is a heavy duty version of the standard FL2 starter motor, I believe the alternator is a heavier duty type also. Now I've fitted a new battery my system works great. If I'm in a traffic jam I'll turn the system off purely as it anouys me that the car engines stops and starts too often. Thanks for that, it is good to know the items I am concerned about are heavy duty. |
