Could be glow plugs then, worth getting them checked out. |

I recall reading some time ago that certain cars (may have been an Audi) used to turn on the glow plugs for a short while as soon as you unlocked the car and that most diesels use the glow plugs at all times at start up and that they stay on for a minute or two after start up. I doubt if it is the case with modern high pressure common rail systems but can anyone throw any light on glow plug technology? |

It needs lots of cranking even when connected to the jumpers. Like I say, I don't think it's the battery.

My glow plug light came on this morning at -5 and a delay .......started a little lumpy still! Doesn't seem to use the glow plugs until -3 or lower

I would have "guessed" that this would help but only doing it twice, on another vehicle I used my clip on ammeter on the first start sequence and the glow plugs were pulling 40 amps and reduced to 15 amps....the second start sequence they started at 20 amps and reduced down to a few amps which showed they were up to temperature and the resistance changed .....so two or three times maximum I think would be beneficial but passed this then I don't "think" you are getting a benefit.....I will try and get some glow plug amp readings from the Freelander 2 tomorrow morning Black FL2 L200 Warrior |

Started it this morning and the car temp rear 0oc put key in pushed start button which turned everything on as normal and also the glow plugs for about a second then pushed starter with brake and it started nicely ( normal as normal is ) Freelander 57 plate XS Blue Auto |
