Cannot lock the vehicle.

Further to my post before about the fob playing up (Having to press it really hard to open/lock the vehicle) it has now gone from bad to worse. When I press the fob, the indicators flash, but the mirrors don't fold. If I open the door, the alarm sounds, and I have to insert the fob/start the engine to stop it.
Today, I thought that until I get this sorted, I would just use the key that comes with the fob. I took the cover off the door handle, inserted the key, and could here the locks working. The mirrors stayed out (the car was unlocked) and when I opened the driver door, the alarm sounded again. I thought I had turned the key the wrong way, so tried it again the other way, and still the same.
I know have an unlocked car outside my house. I have manually folded the mirrors in and removed all valuable items. I know that the vehicle cannot be stolen (without the fob inserted) but it's still worrying.
Any idea's what the hell has gone wrong?

Steve.

Ok, would check battery first as the cheapest option.

Well. I left the vehicle 'unlocked' opposite my house last night (the wife had her car parked outside ours) I opened it this morning, drove up the street to turn, and parked outside my house, and, the bloody thing locked properly, albeit, pressing hard on the fob.
I'm tempted to get a new fob from Stratstones. Any idea of the price?

Update: Stratstones are happy to charge me almost £250 for a programmed fob.

Maybe a little late, but the doors can be locked individually by opening the door, locking from the inside using the locking lever on the door itself, then closing the door with the exterior handle held in the open position. (Works with the rears, not sure about the fronts.)

Thanks for that. But would I them be able to open the doors using the 'key' in the passenger side?

I can manage not having the fob to lock/unlock doors for the time being, and using the 'key', but I don't like leaving the vehicle unlocked.

I believe the key lock is purely mechanical on the passenger door, so that the car can be opened given a total lack of electrical power. But it would be worth checking that by leaving one of the other doors unlocked, locking the passenger door, then trying the key.

Why not open drivers window, close the door then reach in & lock the doors, now press & hold the lock button and it should raise the window and hey presto locked car.

Reverse procedure to unlock (i.e. press and hold unlock for a few seconds, window opens, unlock by reaching inside)

Thanks for all the advice. I have been given a telephone number of a company called countylocksmiths. They cover the South Wales area. Reading their online advert, they can fix my problem at the roadside, at a lot cheaper than LR dealers. Going to give them a call in the morning and see what the score is.

One thing I can't understand. I can unlock the doors by using the 'key', but cannot lock them. Is this normal, or is just my vehicle?
