Valleyboy, from your original post it sounds like you have an issue with car, you may have issues with the fob as well? I would check your car battery as a starting point, then progress to more complicated stuff, but sounds as though you have two issues from what you are saying.

Battery can't be to bad, he's started it and drove up the road quite easily with no assistance.

Yes but having read other posts, which are battery related I thought this would be a good place to start especially as this is the cheapest/easiest to try first.

2008 Freelander 2 TD4 GS Manual Narvik Black

UPDATE. I have just dealt with a firm in South Wales called countylocksmiths. They only cover South Wales though. Anyway, I have ordered a new fob from them which will be programmed to my vehicle. £220, but cheaper that Stratstone, who I hate giving my money too.
I have also sent the other broken fob to remotefobcentre,co,uk who will do the same, but for £44.99. If the fob comes back from them before the first one, and it works okay, then I will cancel my first order.

I did try to de solder the battery, as I have a new one here, but no joy.

2008 Freelander 2 TD4 GS Manual Narvik Black

UPDATE:

I have just received a new fob from 'remotefobcentre.com' and it works well. It cost me £44.99 with a three day turn around. I'm more than happy with the service, and have saved over £200.
I had ordered a new fob from countylocksmiths, which service the South Wales area, but have now cancelled it. They are not happy, as they said 'we have ordered the fob as agreed', but my answer was that they usually have these fobs on their van/s, so they won;t be stuck with it.
The only thing I think could be better is that the fob was sent back by normal post with my name/address on the package. If it got lost, then someone would have my fob/address and could access my vehicle and drive it away.
I have emailed the company to see if they could offer a recorded delivery or registered post service at an extra charge.
I can highly recommend this company for their service. Very Happy

Maybe you could have held off on the Locksmiths order?
and waited on the repair to see if that worked.
Locksmiths would rightly be miffed I would too. as I am sure you would in their position.

I did not know about the remote fob centre until I had placed an order with the locksmiths. I too would be a bit miffed if I had ordered a part for someone, but, they normally have spare fobs in their van, and were out of stock when I phoned them, so they are not going to be stuck with it.
I don't like to do this, and if the fob was'nt too expensive, I would have had it as a spare.

I recently had a fob fixed by a guy who fixes TV's, £25 works a treat. From his explanation, he took it apart and cleaned with contact cleaner. 2014 SE Loire Blue SD4 Auto (MY15)
