So I've read on here so many posts about diff rumble and diff whine, or bearing whine, and Ice always prayed I hear no such thing in my early MY2011 TD4...

Wranglers get noisy once they get to around 4mm. If the noise varies according to road surface I'd suggest that's what you've got. Ex AA Series III LWB Safari - Gone

When mine started on my MY2010, it resembled a jet engine winding up. Really noticeable, and identifiable as coming from the rear. No change in driving dynamics or handling and it was there in all gears at all speeds, but more audible 40mph +. |

Thanks for that. Does a tyre really whine? Great if it does, I just always assumed they'd rumble. |

Yes, I could hear it over the radio and it got louder the faster I drove. |

Ah right. Would that apply to a wheel bearing also do you think? |

Sorry, don't know about wheel bearings noise. I drove to Devon and back with my whine (500 mile round trip) and it didn't get any louder or worse. Got it fixed under warranty when I got back. |

Yes, I can recall the sound of a vehicle with Town and Country's fitted from a mile away. |

This is promising, thanks. I will keep an eye, or rather am ear on it and see if it progresses. |

They do. Some more so than others. If it changes volume/pitch between road surfaces, it's a tyre issue. If it doesn't change between road surfaces, it's likely to be a bearing, either wheel or diff |

My wranglers whined when they were down to 3mm, really bad on roads that were made out of concrete. I've never heard a rear diff whine but the Indy I use said you'll deffinately know when it's whining. He told me that he's pointed it out to a couple of FL2 owners in the past only to be told they thought it was just a normal car noise!! Black MY2013 SD4 GS Auto, Wood Company Armrest, Freel2 sticker.
