Tire speed ratings

i'am thinking of changing my tires for a more aggressive mud type
The question, can I legally change my tires to s rated instead of h rated

One more question I was thinking 245 70 17. Or bigger , would I be able to use my spare wheel for short distances 225 65 17

speed rating, the car will have these on the sizes sticker on the door panel

if you are going out side of these i would speak to your insurer, end of the day you have a accident they won't take Joe Bloggs on Freel2 said it was okay too swap them as an excuse Wink

And we all know insurers will use any excuse to not have to pay up Thumbs Up Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

Police! There are actually police on the roads again?

You would have to be doing something stupid or be very unlucky to get done for having the wrong speed rated tyres by the police.

If your insurers are ok with it the police will be too

Unless they decide VOSA need to investigate to find out if they are legal Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

With the spare I would check online to see how far out the rolling circumference would be.

There are calculators that you put in the info and it will tell you if it would be a suitable choice or not.

With the s rated tyre it is suitable for the max speed of the freely so can't see you having any problems even if you do have an accident.

If you have an MOT, and your insurers are fine with it, then I can't see where you would have an issue. Freelander 2 HSE Lux 2013MY - Barolo Black with Ivory Leather. Alpine DVD - Privacy -Evoque 20" Dynamic Wheels and more to come.........

You probably should not be running on H rated tyres to start with. With 17" wheels, LR specify a V rating. H is an option for winter tyres only, and Q for MT tyres. S rated tyres are not specified.
This is off TOPIx and is linked to somewhere on the forum, but I'm not sure where (I have a paper copy). Ex AA Series III LWB Safari - Gone
300TDi Disco (bought new - terrible car) sent back after 18 months
Freelander 1 Estate - leased, given back at end of lease
200TDi Disco (bought from a mate with 100,000 on the clock) - Gone
Disco 2 TD5 - sold and exported to France
FR2 TD4 GS - Gone
FR2 SD4 HSE - Now changed for a DS
New model ex-demo Evoque S 180 in white
Unable to order a new DS, so gave up. Now have a Volvo S90 Recharge.

My General Grabbers AT's are H rated on 17" wheels. H ratings are for speeds up to 131 MPH. In the door pillar the badge gives tyre pressures for H and V tyres. I don't think having H rated tyres is a problem. Black MY2013 SD4 GS Auto, Wood Company Armrest, Freel2 sticker.

I agree
My general grabbers are Xl load, h rated been very good .great when you hit standing Walter lol
But I ripped the side wall on one tire so thinking off eBay for the 3 over ones and going bigger for ground clearance grip etc
Unless I find a 235 65 17 on eBay cheap to replace the dead tire
