Get a copy of VMWare or Virtualbox and install the software to a virtual machine.

Mine arrived today, I've been installing the software since 6 O'clock Rolling Eyes

Which is exactly what I'll be doing because after spending 3 1/2 hours installing the software it turns out that the driver will only work on 32 bit versions of Windows not 64 Evil or Very Mad

I just noticed your comment about an Elm based reader. Will that do anything other than the OBDII basics?

I've got a Scangauge that will look at the basics but the big advantage of the tool you started this thread with is that it's designed to work with, and includes, the JLR SDD software that provides full diagnostics and re-programming.

Having experimented with and looked at various code readers I came to the inevitable conclusion that you get what you pay for. When I had my TD5 Defender I used BBS Rovacom Lite which was fine but single vehicle specific. In the end I bit the bullet and went for this:-

http://www.autel.uk/products/automotive-di...das-ds708/

It will do anything from a Mini to a Bugatti Veyron! Very useful for doing stuff like DPF regeneration and Oil Service Light re-set. One of the useful things I recently found I could do with it was to bleed the brakes on a ABS VW new Beetle (It does clever things with the ABS pump valves and tells you when and how many times to press the brake pedal). The alternative was an expensive trip to a VW dealer for the owner!

It cost me £1200 but IMHO was worth every penny. If like me you tend to work on other cars (retirement hobby) then it is worth paying the additional £300 a year software update license. It has already saved me quite a bit, largely by people knowing I have it and coming round for a cheap diagnostics session!

I have no connection with the firm, I just thing the product is excellent. John

The code reader I wanted will not work with windows 8.1 Big Cry
But it did give me a. C0700code?

For anyone buying the Mongoose Pro the installation video shows an 'incorrect VCM' error being fixed by rebooting the PC. This doesn't fix the error and what you need to do is follow the instructions that SDD gives you, go into System Information, click on Details and select the Mongoose. After clicking the Continue button a few times SDD will restart without the error.

I have not tried doing anything with ABS on the Freelander yet but will give it a go at some point (bit busy at the moment) and let you know. However, as I said in my previous post I used it to go through the ABS bleed sequence on a VW New Beetle and it performed well. Yes, it is not cheap but when you compare it with the price of a Hawkeye which only does one make of vehicle it is not bad! John

Anyone have issue installing it in VM can try XP mode http://uobd22.over-blog.com/article-how-to...89789.html

"First, download Windows XP Mode package from the link below and install it:

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows...-windows-7

This package is released by Windows, is an original one and virus-free. Like a VM, XP mode is 100% separate from your main computer. Thus you never need to worry about Mangoose SDD software screwing up your computer or vice-versa.

Then reinstall JLR Mangoose software in XP mode. Installation of the tool is in the CD which comes with the cable. The software should be installed smoothly this time. If you have any problem with this step, please let me know or contacted UOBD2 customer service directly.

Finally hook it up your Jaguar or Land Rover and see if it works. The cable worked perfectly on my 05 XJR."
