Wheel nuts question

The wheel nuts have a captive washer on them, do they spin when new?

I have noticed that the locking nut washer does spin but the others don't and I think that's what is causing a clicking from my front wheels like this post: http://www.freel2.com/forum/topic9176.html...+end+noise Andyfr

I can answer my own question now. When I got round to taking off the back wheels there were some nuts where the washer did spin.

I think I will have to get myself a full set of wheel nuts, won't be cheap I guess. Neutral Andyfr

Dump the locking ones whilst you are at it

Are the FL2 lockers as problematic as those on the D3?, if so mine will be for the trash. FL2 SD4 Metropolis Auto Santorini Black / ivory completely stock.

Why would I do that? I don't want to risk the wheels being stolen. Andyfr

Why? I've not had a problem with mine but then I don't let any tyre monkeys and their air wrenches near them. I also always use a torque wrench to tighten them, and the locking nuts are the first to be undone and the last to be done up.

The Discovery ones are different, mine have been changed, but never heard of a problem with the Freelander ones.

I changed mine on the disco because they were corroded but I think they are a much better design than the mcguard ones fitted to the freelander!

Is there more than one type of wheel nut? I have some older wheels for my winter tyres and they don't seem to fit as well, the bolts stick out more.

When I was looking at replacing my locking wheel nuts McGard list two different thread lengths, something like 22mm and 39mm IIRC.
