Personally I'd always go for the lower mileage especially as there's such a difference.

Low mileage is no guarantee but my personal opinion would be the lower mileage and the auto box. DMF's have been known to cause clutch trouble at any mileage which would sway me towards the auto, and in either case listen out for the dreaded rear diff whine, other than that the rest that can go wrong are annoyances and few and far between.

Frankly, it sounds like you've already made your mind up that you're going for the Bali Blue one......

HSE model is lovely but when you consider the spec that the above mentioned GS has, a few personal mods which others including ronp has done is a lovely looking vehicle in my opinion

The pricing seems to be about right for both cars so it is down to personal taste and seems like you have decided on the HSE and just need a bit of comfort regarding the mileage. From what I researched before buying mine and subsequently reading up since, there are no unique age related problems with the Freelander.

....or look at an older HSE with the toys and leave money spare for the running costs or changes.

Taggarts in Motherwell have a Bali blue HSE, 46000 miles, £16990, might be worth ringing and see what deal they can do for you, I know it's a long way but sometimes cars in other areas are better priced and more desirable.
