Help me decide which Freelander - new to it all!

Hi all!

I've seen two Freelanders for sale near me, they are different i prefer the bali blue as it has everything i want and more but the mileage is so high! What costs am i looking at for an out of warranty Freelander..what will go wrong?

Here are my options

1) 2.2 TD4 GS 2011 29k miles in Ipanema Sand and cream leather interior, sun protection glass and DAB extra. Automatic.

2) 2.2 TD4 HSE 2011 90K miles in Bali Blue. Pano roof. manual. one owner.

Neither are from main dealers unfortunately. Both are £15,900.

Can you please give me advice on which one is best and if i choose the one i want (bali blue) will i be facing huge bills?

Thanks!

Angharad Smile

Personally I'd always go for the lower mileage especially as there's such a difference.
Also, the GS spec you describe is way above the std version - auto, leather, glass, dab.
You can always retrofit a sat nav if that puts you off. FL2 now gone and have a couple of items left for sale:-

Brodit active iPhone holder + Brodit dash clip,
Bluetooth Music Streaming Module.

Low mileage is no guarantee but my personal opinion would be the lower mileage and the auto box. DMF's have been known to cause clutch trouble at any mileage which would sway me towards the auto, and in either case listen out for the dreaded rear diff whine, other than that the rest that can go wrong are annoyances and few and far between.
HSE is very nice to have but the GS has good spec and a retrofit sat nav is usually better than the real thing.

I do like the blue though Whistle

Frankly, it sounds like you've already made your mind up that you're going for the Bali Blue one......

Don't be too swayed by lower mileage - back in the day when I was doing intergalactic mileage, my car with upwards of 150k on it sailed through every service and MOT.

My wife's car that bimbled to the shops once a week having tiny mileage, cost me a fortune every service and MOT.

Lower mileage definitely does not necessarily mean smaller bills.

theres lots of decent FL2's out there don't rush
personally if you are committed to the two mentioned I would go GS as its spec is very good

look what Ronps done to his, knocks spots off HSEs Thumbs Up - FL2 3.2 i6 - There is no Replacement for Displacement

If my wife ever sells my stuff for what I told her I paid for it, there will be some bargains out there!

How exactly does RonPs knock spots off HSE Confused

Yes Ronp looks great, upgraded and very nicely done, but for the same money in upgrades so would a HSE

A GS or a HSE virtually looks identical Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

HSE model is lovely but when you consider the spec that the above mentioned GS has, a few personal mods which others including ronp has done is a lovely looking vehicle in my opinion

Certainly the GS v the HSE in the above case is my option again only my opinion
Sorry if i offended all the HSE owners out there, given the option and affordabilty I would have an HSE and personalise to my taste appropriately - FL2 3.2 i6 - There is no Replacement for Displacement

Thank you for the advice! heart and head situation! But i'm in no rush, i just saw these two close to me and thought hmmm.

Are maintenance costs quite high after warranty? would you use main dealer for work?

Scotland 2011 Freelander 2 SD4 HSE Auto Santorini Black

The pricing seems to be about right for both cars so it is down to personal taste and seems like you have decided on the HSE and just need a bit of comfort regarding the mileage. From what I researched before buying mine and subsequently reading up since, there are no unique age related problems with the Freelander.

If it's been well maintained and I suspect it's had a lot of motorway miles I wouldn't let the mileage put you off. The only thing to consider is if you were planning on adding a lot of miles to it yourself over the coming years there may be a few large service bills in the future.

If I was looking to purchase again, that GS would be interesting. With leather, auto and rear tints it would have ticked all the boxes I was after. Sunroof is nice but not necessary (and not technically a pano) and satnav is very disappointing Evil or Very Mad , I've gave up using it as it had a 50% success rate in the dozen or so times I needed it. Update discs are also very expensive.

....or look at an older HSE with the toys and leave money spare for the running costs or changes.

Personally I look at total cost of ownership....

Bit of no brainer to me

GS for sure - not all of the HSE luxuries are needed and the auto combination is a must in my books.

Taggarts in Motherwell have a Bali blue HSE, 46000 miles, £16990, might be worth ringing and see what deal they can do for you, I know it's a long way but sometimes cars in other areas are better priced and more desirable.

Have a good look through the used land rover site, they come with warranty too Thumbs Up
