New Owner

Evening all

After selling my previous FL2 18 months ago I swore I'd never have another.

Well today I went to visit the local stealership to look at there stock of ex demos and after relishing that I could have a brand new stock car for 500 quid more how could I say no.

Ideally wanted a sd4 auto, but ended up with a td4 manual. Think I got an ok deal with a few extras. All I need now is a good boot liner. Had a good one previously but cannot for the life of me remember where I got it from, someone from eBay

To be fair looking on the web what I paid ranges from around £1000 more than ex demo and £1000 less than a 14 plate GS with 6k on the clock. Just spec'd the car online and we got £3450.80 discounted....

When I spoke to them and other dealers in the week they were quite adamant that the ex demos prices had very little movement and seeing how quickly these were selling I kinda agreed, after missing out on 4 this week from two local dealers.

They seemed to want to be a little more flexible on the stock new cars as long as you weren't that fussed on colour and I'm not as long as it wasn't black.

As said got a few extras thrown in as well as a landrover day for two which I didn't get on the previous FL2 I bought.

Should never look at prices once you have committed as there always seems to be a better deal.

I understood that to mean £500 more for brand new rather than ex demo. It looks like a good deal to me! GONE - '07 TD4 GS manual Zermatt Silver

a brand new one for £500 more is a no brainer !!

the problem with ex demos is that Tom Dick and Harry have all driven them in most cases.

remember when we had a test drive in a demo and the salesman told us he had it on the beach up north when on holiday !!

Mines an ex 'Land Rover management' car, 12 months old and absolutely immaculate, underneath is minty clean, I fitted my own mudflaps and behind the sills was clean, so likely it's never a been off road. Tom, Dick or Harry seem to have been careful with it judging by the tyres, lack of stone chips etc.
Interior is mint and looks brand new, I paid £15k less than the same model as a new one, it's costing me less than my GS which was new when I got it, overall I had a choice of £795 a year for an extended warranty or save a few quid and swap it.
It will certainly do me for a couple of years when I will make the decision on the new Discovery Sport and its new engine line up, even the. I will probably go for a demo one.
Demo cars are still under full warranty, the saving can be worthwhile and they are always worth looking at Thumbs Up

The £5000 was off list price. Of course I don't know how much discount they would have given me on a new one. To be fair also, they were pretty keen to get rid of this one - made in Feb, registered in June and still unsold in October! It had mainly been driven by the sales lady as her company car. I suspect a lot of the "ex-demonstrators" are actually used as company cars - another branch of the dealer had a couple of GS models (what I was actually looking for) but couldn't get hold of them for me to drive as the bosses were using them. I eventually got the HSE for the price of an equivalent GS. Ex AA Series III LWB Safari - Gone

I was interested in three ex demos at Lookers Colchetser but couldn't get there before they sold. They seem to be shifting overnight, unreal. Still a very popular cars it seems. Same with the couple at Marshalls I was interested in, gone in a few days.

Hope there popularity sticks once the disco sport comes out.

a lot of demos have been used on Landrover Experience days, although perhaps low mileage, may have suffered a bit of abuse.

but when jet washed and polished, you would never know !!

I don't necessarily disagree with Iain's comment, but I have now had my 6 month old (when I bought it) ex-demo/courtesy FL for a year and haven't looked back. In the end I figured on most days someone drove it to their place of work and brought it back again. It no doubt did more than that, and some will have been nice to it as they are to their own car and some will have treated harshly, but on average no worse than one owner might. You could look at any car not knowing whether they hammered it everyday with a cold engine, slammed the doors every time or drove round with half a ton of horse feed in the back all the time. Judged on the condition of the tyres for their mileage and the condition of the bodywork, etc, I was more than happy. 2016 BMW X3 30d SE in red
