its not a 100% test but if you look in the PAS resevoir whilst turning the wheel when the engine is ticking over, you may see bubles and turbilant flow of oil. If all is OK you should just see an almost perfect mushroom shape.

This is from an old thread when the swarf issue was rearing its head, might be worth a look?

hi again as my dealer told me and what i have read on forum, landrover re modified the filter from the original, is your car under warranty and did you get from landrover dealer,if so then this should have been replaced at some stage.
By the way i only changed mine as a precaution after reading what others on the forum said. 57 reg GS leather seats panoramic sun roof

I'm 99% sure it's a blocked filter.
Changed mine a few months ago and now it's perfect. I've changed the filter twice in 5 years, last time was 3 years ago.
The filter was blocked with degragation from the hoses.
Both front wheels need to be raised and it's a two person job. If you get one of those cheap manual pumps, it's makes the job a doddle.
Takes less than an hour.
Dunno how this would invalidate your warranty, unless you tell them Whistle
Also, upon opening up the filter, the mesh looks exactly the same as previous Big Cry

Get this fixed asap otherwise the impeller in the pump will whine and may fail (££££) Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.

You could always fix it yourself before then, then say it's gone better by itself, 'they all do it sir' dealer lingo Laughing
It only cost me 36 quid Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.

Not that Im aware of. I will check the flow for mushroom shape bulge and if it is clearly iffy I will see if I can speed things up.

I have changed the power steering filter on both my sons and my own Freelander. It is a fairly easy job to do by one person provided that you have a good 2 ton high lift jack which will lift both front wheels off the ground. It is also beneficial that you give the power steering a good flush through. I did this by first pumping through 4 litres of red power steering fluid then changing to the genuine green Landrover fluid until it ran through clear green. The attached video will show you haw to do it. You will also need a syphon pump and also make sure that you protect the area beneath the filter as you will most definately get some spillage. It is not a difficult job to do apart from releasing the filter clip.

Thanks. That's the video I watched but all moot if I cant get the wheels off the road. I may be cheaper risking the fault finding cost and get it done under warranty. Hopefully nothing breaks in the 2 weeks - its been like this for at least 3 months so fingers crossed.

Right, wee update. Had my neighbour move the wheels about while the engine idled and I looked at the fluid in the reservoir. Other than vibration from the engine, I couldn't see any movement in the oil at all. I assume I should see the white plastic filter sticking out the top of the oil?

On a better note, my neighbour has a trolley jack and axle stands! So, should I get it checked at garage and risk charge if nothing wrong, or spend far less and replace reservoir. Then if occurs occur hope it doesn't Censored the warranty?

Ok, gonna do it myself. So, I have the part numbers for the reservoir and the LR fluid. Do I need 2 litres of fluid?

Also, someone mentioned flushing with red fluid - where would I get this and how much do I need?

Thanks.

Did mine a few weeks ago I bought three litres and the filter reservoir from our forum LR sponsors. It only takes one bottle but I double flushed to ensure the fluid was perfect and was left with a good half litre spare
Very easy using the u tube video method
Get a 2nd pair of hands to turn the steering wheel to flush the fluid through. Mine is silky smooth perfect now - FL2 3.2 i6 - There is no Replacement for Displacement

If my wife ever sells my stuff for what I told her I paid for it, there will be some bargains out there!

Thanks for that. Is it obvious when the fluid is running clear with no old left if it is all the same colour?
