Dual Mass Flywheels

Hi guys, sorry to bring it up again but I'd appreciate anyone who could to fill out the brief poll below about your Dual Mass Flywheel. I'm trying to gain some sensible information about it's realistic lifespan having just replaced mine at 112k.

Thank you Smile

I PX'd my old TD4 GS at 85k and coming up to 7 years old as I felt it was getting to the point of something expensive happening. I towed a 'van for about 13k of that distance and it was still on its original flywheel and clutch (although you could smell it after reversing the 'van up a slight incline). GONE - '07 TD4 GS manual Zermatt Silver

So you guys both pay the equivalent of a DMF replacement every year or two in increased fuel costs?

Yep, well done!

I've had both, not much difference between the two. Certainly not enough to pay for a new DMF every year or two.

LR's own figures say 7mpg difference for the 160 engine. The mpg threads here suggest similar - maybe slightly less. That easily adds up to £500 plus per year if you do a reasonable mileage. Its not insignificant. Plus, of course, the auto costs £1500 more to start with. That's £4K over 5 years. Not that much relative to the other costs involved in running something like the FL2, but not a trivial sum either.

Besides, I like to decide for myself what gear I'm in!

From personal experience, running an SD4 compared to the 160, it was only a couple of miles more to the gallon, if that. Was only getting 30 around town with the 160, certainly wasn't getting 23 with the SD4, the D4 does better than that.

The SD4 gets better mpg than the 160, so that's consistent. One has to compare like with like.

30 is low for a 160 manual - I get around 36.
