Can't remember where I heard it but someone told me that in the summer, the diesel "formula" is changed as in winter there are additives to prevent "frothing at the pump" (nasty). I have always noticed an increase in mpg in diesel cars in the summer, even on cool days so it can't be down to the temperature alone.
