Rear Window Vents?

Hi all

New questions Laughing

How do the rear window vents work? Hoping that they are ofcourse controlled some how by the air con / heater / fan

I have tried every which way to get them to have air coming out of the rear vents for the boot windows but can not get anything to happen Rolling Eyes

Tried all the switches plus the demist switch but still no air flow coming out, all the others work, in front and the ones under the front seats for the people in the rear seats work, just nothing happening for the rear boot screens

Im guessing theres some kind of air duct coming from the front of the truck to the back but would it be inside the cab or under the truck?

Any help would be ace, I can see for the winter im going to need these vents to work ( if they are ment to work anyway with my spec truck late 2007 XS auto )

Cheers

Sad aww man that sucks, I did wonder when looking and seeing a fair bit of dust sitting in them.

Has anyone done any mods to get them working? Also is this something that the hse has working or just for show on all models?

Cheers

I think you are refering to the vents below the rear windows. I think, but am not sure, that they let air out of the vehicle. If air is to come in from outside it must have a means to exit. Perhaps someone knows better.

I think it just a vent to send warm air to the back of the back lights to help stop them misting up

The ventilation and heating of any car uses a heater blower motor to push external air into the car cabin.
.
In 1965 Ford came up with the logical thought that if you are pushing air into an otherwise sealed box once its compressed the cabin then the system ceases to work. Ford put vents in the rear roof pillars of the mark I facelift Cortina and made heavy press coverage to their 'invention' and called it 'Airflow Ventilation'.
.
All modern cars have hidden vent systems to let the air out.
.
On our Freelanders those grills are the cabin outlets just under the rear side windows. If you remove the rear lights to change a bulb, (you DO need to change your orange indicator bulbs because the laquer degrades and falls off), so with the rear light out you will see the external vent where the cabin air vents back out of the car to the void behind the bumper.
.
If you have a MY11 or later you need to change the stop light bulbs as well because the red paint falls off.
.
So I reccomend all members to be inquisitive, find the vents and change your bulbs about bi annually.
.
Kind regards to all from Fred.
