United Kingdom 2008 Freelander 2 TD4 SE Auto Baltic Blue

It does make me laugh that people will steer clear of a 177k or 190k freelander and go out and buy one at say 130k when they have the £2000 service to come. At least ours has over 100k till the next one. I've only just bought mine and I have to say I am delighted with it and I would defy anyone from differentiating it from a 50k one. The previous owner spent nearly £14000 on servicing and maintenance in its life.

I have no idea how much mine's cost in servicing. I've had it since new so I've borne the entire cost. 138,000 miles & counting

More interesting (and frightening) is to add up the cost of diesel. Haven't done it recently but I worked it out once for my fairly low mileage (used as a private car/motor caravan) petrol Sherpa. Cost new was about £5500, petrol over five years over £8000. That's without thinking about the cost of servicing, repairs, tax, insurance, recovery insurance...
And at today's prices... Ex AA Series III LWB Safari - Gone
300TDi Disco (bought new - terrible car) sent back after 18 months
Freelander 1 Estate - leased, given back at end of lease
200TDi Disco (bought from a mate with 100,000 on the clock) - Gone
Disco 2 TD5 - sold and exported to France
FR2 TD4 GS - Gone
FR2 SD4 HSE - Now changed for a DS
New model ex-demo Evoque S 180 in white
Unable to order a new DS, so gave up. Now have a Volvo S90 Recharge.

I keep a record of what I've put in the D4, no reason as mpg is not a concern, but I've had it just over a year, done 10955 miles as of yesterday, and put 2115 litres in it at a cost of £3026, it's still a fantastic motor.

We have just replaced two FL2s one an 08 with 100k no problems at all but the 10 one had new clutch, driveshaft, throttle body and gearbox by 55k. Just bought two more with LR warranties.

Re: Highest mileage?

I own a 58 FL2 td4. 75k. I'm more of an enthusiast, than an owner Laughing Landy has now gone.

France 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 XS Manual Zermatt Silver

Now at 230,000 miles and counting....

2007 TD4 manual bought in UK at three years old as an ex company car with full LR history at 130k miles.

Since done all servicing myself apart from cam belt change with water pump change and diff axle fluid change at 150k at LR dealer.

Problems:

Parking sensors have never worked
Rear hatch release has failed twice due to corrosion of the internals. Fist time fixed with araldite second time replaced the mechanism.
All discs and pads replaced at 150k
Reduced power cuased by partially blocked fuel filter (I had never changed it) soon sorted with a replacement.

Drive it fairly gently and get 36-38 mpg
Change oil and filter every 10k with 5w-30 fully synthetic - recently acquired 27mm ratchet ring spanner has reduced this to a 40 min job from start to finish.
Have always run with 2 stroke oil added.

That's very impressive and encouraging, mine is on 125,000 so is only just run in then! We were clicking up around 30,000 miles a year but it's been our second car for the last two years so we only do around 10,000 miles now so hopefully it will keep chugging on for a few more years then Black FL2

245,000!!!!
Just rebuilt engine...

They break at about 240k... I know this first hand... Twice...

There is a fairly easy bit of maintenance/work that can prevent the failure and probs make them good for the same again...

Mine has done 60k now and pulls like a train.

My mothers parnter has one same year and I think its done 120k so double the mileage of mine yet there is no detriment to how it runs or drives

We are both always saying how impressive they are, and he cant justify getting a new car anytime soon.

Just tipped 85,000 last Thursday. Round trip to Poland (all over) wonderful on the German Autobahns, never missed a beat.
No issues at all with my Metro in the 22 Months of driving it-well pleased. Hit it he said, Hit it!--So I hit it, then he hit me---Doh!

So what is the maintenance ? Would it be a new cam belt?
