Hey folks, I haven't posted a lot on here but I have made use of the wealth of information available. However..

I'm thinking of changing the FL2. We have had it almost 2 years and have unfortunately outgrown it. The boot simply isn't big enough, after having a child we found that once the pram is in there it's pretty much full. Considering we also have 2 dogs, if we're all travelling, the pram has to go on the back seats, meaning we then can only carry 2 adults + child. If we were to have another child we would be screwed.

Therefore we are looking at alternatives. I'd love a FFRR but simply can't afford one (£18k max) unless its 8-10 years old. I do love the 'baby' RRS but not sure how much bigger the cabin/boot space is to the FL2. The obvious choice is a D3 I suppose but I'm only 28 and don't feel 'old enough' if that makes sense? At least a rangie would give me some sort of 'street cred'

Aside to that I'm looking at the usual competitors.. Q7, X5, ML, Cayenne, Toureg.. etc. I'm trying to draw up a shortlist, then test drive them all before (the wife picks) picking. Was hoping maybe someone has had the same predicament and could give some soundly advice?

Get a roof box!

Or fit a dog guard, that will nearly double boot space.

I have come to the Freelander from a D3 and boy do I miss it but just didn't need the bulk.
The Discovery is the most versatile vehicle on the market combining a5 seater plus the kitchen sink to a van nearly as big as a Transit.

RRS bigger boot and you can open the window to get more in without it all rolling out, ,
But dont forget to not open the full boot if you loaded up like this , as Mrs G did , space was filled with toys and balls etc everything round rolled down the street under parked cars and everywhere

but the RRS has interior lights in the rear that do not come on with the door, also the seatbelt buckles are imbedded in the seat and hard to find when reaching round a kids seat.

Get a Disco, same chassis but no party frock and as others have said, much more space and people won't think you dealing

Well getting back on track I had the use of Q7 once, nice car to drive but to trying to get out of it in a carpark is a nightmare. Had to let the wife out first then park up and I heard that tyres only last 10000 miles.

If you get 10000 miles or of a set of tyres on a Q7, your doing very well! The X5 is just as bad.

Thanks folks, I already know the answer to our problems is a Disco. I've done a little reading and noticed the RRS boot is almost as big as he big sisters, just lacking the head room so may keep my eye out for an earlier example with decent mileage.

Slight case of heresy on my part but if you want loads of room for the kids, dogs et al then have a look at an E class Merc estate. MY 09 GS manual in Lago Grey, Wood Co arm rest and side bumper strips - now sold.
