Only an idea, but have you tried the trusty "hard reset"? |

If that means disconnecting the battery for a while and touching the cables together, then yes. But why should I have to do that to let the car know the "key" is not in the slot? A key is so much simpler, it either turns or not. Something that is supposed to make the car harder to steal has my car sitting outside, unlockable and able to be started by simply pushing the button. It's up there with being stuck without 4wd in the outback a few months ago because a broken sensor wouldn't allow it to engage, or driving 200kms in my wife's seating position because a fuse in the seat blew and there wasn't a spare.... |

Agreed Mikehzz, its a piece of techno rubbish - I would much prefer a simple quality component to the spring driven pop in and out clap trap that is the key fob - there can be beauty in simplicity but LR are not familiar with the concept.

Yes thanks for that, but I have already done that to one of mine a few years ago. It's not the problem. The key fob works, there is something wrong with the slot that it sits in. The slot won't let you pull the key out and if you do pull it out forcefully, then the slot still thinks the key is in there. The car starts without the key. LR have decided I need to pay hundreds of $$ for a new slot assembly. My post was a bit of a rant about why we have a fob in the first place when a key is simpler and cheaper. |

The latest FL2 does without the docking slot, provided the fob is in the car it will start - but is there a manual over-ride incase the car doesnt recognise that the fob is in the car? Now - 2017 BMW X3 M Sport Carbon Black

hi my car occasionally dose not recognise the key. How do you over-ride to start the car? |

An 'over-ride' would surely defeat the object of security, might as well have two wires hanging down that you can twist together just in case |

I've had no problems like that with mine, but you're on a lose situation because if the dealer can't replicate it there is no fault |

mikehzz - partslandrover on ebay in the UK has one listed - item eBay Item No. 380733928102. He posts worldwide. Assuming it doesn't need programming - that the key and ECU are code specific, this may sort it. 2016 BMW X3 30d SE in red

Well the dealer replaced the slot...$350 for the part, $550 for the labour (3 hours). |
