I have literally just installed a bluefin on my FL2 auto, so thought I'd add my 2p.

You do not get a generic map. That is a 100% fact.

Ok, I stand corrected. Its just in the literature it states that your remap will be available to down load within 8 hours (Mon - Fri office hours), giving the impression it took some time for an engineer to look over and adjust the map. Yet my remap was downloadable within less than a minute late on a friday night. |

They have been known to work weird hours as well, depending on what they are working on. You never know, some one may have been there at the time yours came in.

The Bluefin documentation does say that you may not always need to connect to their servers to retrieve a map as it may already be available on the device, which does tend to suggest a generic map.

For the last time, they are not a generic map The cars ECU will not accept a map file that does not carry the correct ident.

Reading between the lines in this thread, I think it is worth exploring what is meant by 'generic' in terms of mapping. I am no expert but there is definitely some confusion over whether the maps are 'generic' or not. So here are my thoughts:

So it sounds like some cars may get a generic map as they come with the device, but the FL2 doesn't because it requires the ident put into the new map, and it may get some extra tweaking specific to that vehicle as well?

Yes, that is what I am suggesting.

Although I don't know for a fact what Bluefin do, I would guess they do pretty much what other well respected "plug and play" mapping companies do. (I.e. Those that sell you a hand held device to "program" your car).

what happens if you take it to the dealer for a software update? does it delete this improved remap? what happens then? presumably you cant just reinstall the Bluefin one because it won't have the latest land rover update on it ? |

Not sure about Bluefin, but the previous hand-held programming device manufacturers I have used always told me to remove it prior to going into a main dealer.

Superchips suggested that I uninstall it before servicing, Caffyns LR told me not to bother. I didn't bother.
