They all tilt and slide don't they? Only the rear sunroof is fixed, isn't it? Well, that's how it is on mine and every other one I've seen. Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto

The front section opens a full 24cm

The rear stays closed and is blocked a little when the front opens, same for my old SE and HSE

United Kingdom 2010 Freelander 2 TD4 GS Auto Baltic Blue

Hi there, I am very sorry if I have stired up a hornets nest but for the first time in my life I will be owning a car less than 10 years old and investing a lot of money and from what I have heared from within our club some members have had the interiors ruined by water leaks. I have always had solid rooved LRs because of this and I really do want an in built sat nav, can't be doing with all those messy marks on windscreen and trailing cables. Many thanks once again and I will be going for that 08 HSE auto.

Cheers

Wise choice Thumbs Up my sisters MY13 Evoque had water ingress due to the Panoramic Roof! I have a freely 2 on order and my dealer told me that the car will be getting built much earlier than the original build date as the MY14 Evoque have got a problem with the Panoramic Roofs Rolling Eyes until that problems is rectified LR have decided to focus the production for the Freelander 2. He was not told exactly what the problem was however! NOTE I AM NOT SAYING THAT ALL LR sunroofs leak!! MY14 Kahn Converted Dynamic - Fuji White Ebony/Pimento Interior

Forgot to add before a cheap dig is made I appreciate and understand an Evoque and a Freelander 2 are two separate models, and that the the initial question asked was regarding a Freely sunroof and not an Evoque one! MY14 Kahn Converted Dynamic - Fuji White Ebony/Pimento Interior

On another thought one of the first things i did with mine was get a step stool with the roof open and clean everything in the recess, lubricate everything that moves and treat the rubber, will do it again after winter.

My last car was a freely 2 MY08 SE with sat nav and sun roof Very Happy . In all the time in my ownership there were no leaks or problems associated with the sun roof apart from the sun blind going slack Sad .

1) If there is water on the roof dont use... stops water getting trapped when closed and better for the rubber
2) Above applies for very cold temperatures
3) Close if it starts raining or the air is very moist - ie mist etc
4) Worst case dry with a cloth first
5) Maintain the rubber and clean around the sun roof area

I've followed these rules and never had a problem although it is possible things can occur.

Early 80s designs where awful but cars in general are far better now.

Re FL2s.... there was a recall on the sun roof ( runners iirc ) worth checking yours has been done.

Apologies for the confusion in my earlier posts. Embarassed i believe the pano roof is a recent thing and most FL2s have the conventional tilt and slide. 2013 RR Evoque Pure Tech

Not so, BB. MY 08 SE has full panoramic roof. AFAIK, that was the only option at the time. Never seen T&S roof on its own on FL2 10MY (Sept 09) TD4 HSE Auto in Stornoway Grey (Now Gone)

The only "leak" problem I had on my old MY07 SE FL2 was the blocked drain pipes from the sunroof which was quite a common problem with the early FL2's, easily sorted by the dealer though.
No such problems with my MY12 though (so far!)

I have had an HSE with pan roof for 6 1/2 years and it has never leaked. Times have moved on and leaking sunroofs are a thing of the past.

Buy with confidence. Thumbs Up

Sorry Nut, but your dealer is talking absolute crap. The Evoque roof can't leak as it is a non opening sealed glass panel. The delay on Evoques with Sunroofs is because of demand. Dealers come out with some classic excuses when they have not got a clue.

But LR is not concentrating on Freelander orders. As far as manufacturing is concerned, nothing has changed. Freelander 2 HSE Lux 2013MY - Barolo Black with Ivory Leather. Alpine DVD - Privacy -Evoque 20" Dynamic Wheels and more to come.........

My two penny worth! My previous 07SE (bless it) leaked twice from the roof in all the time I owned it, both times in the most horrendous conditions and while parked. The water was only a drip but coming in through the drivers sun-visor hinge attachment screw (a self-tapper going into roof pressing that formed a small 'sump'). Checked under the roof lining but no sign on damp anywhere else. Cleaning the channels and seals (no indication of distortion or wear) left every thing leak-free. Just made it a routine check for leaves and debris when cleaning car (I do live in a forest area!). Also found that the pop-up wind deflector was quite effective at reducing the 'boom' effect that I had with previous sun roofs when travelling at speed. 2007 SE Manual : Gone and missed but 2013 HSE Lux is better!
Series IIa : Gone but hopefully still alive.
