I have a manual, but isn't sport mode the one where you change the gears? If so, then it could be more economical by keeping to a lower gear but within range rather than being in a too high a gear and thus chucking fuel in but the engine being unable to produce the power as it is overloaded for the speed it is doing. Just from experience from hundreds of trips up and down the M40, in sport mode over the distance from the M25 to Warwick services I would get 1-2 mpg better in sport mode?

The so called Sport Mode ( LR call it Command Shift) allows you to shift up early or hold the higher gear longer, it will down shift automatically, but certainly holds the lower gears longer, if it allows up shift at all automatically. I tend to shift before max revs so I have never found out. I use Command Shift when towing, it tends to stop that momentary gear drop on A roads coming out of bends as you increase power, it is also good at preventing kick down when accelerating on motorways and dual carriageways for that un-required kick in the butt after burner effect when only a more sedate change in speed is needed. I think that judicious use would give a better mpg. my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis

Sport mode and command shift are not the same thing.

but if you you command shift the gear stick stays in sport until flicked back, it can be left in command (lever left) and not in sport if you select a certain terrain response ( I forget) while lever is across to sport.

If you select command shift it stays in command shift, if you want to revert to sport you have to select D then back into sport, on the Evoque if you select CS and dont use it the box will automatically drop back to sport but it doesn't happen on the FL2 unless the later MY13 cars have this? |

If in Command Shift, it will go back to Sport if you slow down and it feels you should have changed down, it will also if feels damage may be done to the engine or Transmission change up a gear when in Command Shift, putting you back into Sport Mode. p****d off with a Digital Keyboard Warrior |

I set off as normal, warmed up the car, then on a long straight put it in Sport Mode, lever to the left, then pushed forward and Command Shift was selected, 2nd Gear was found and displayed, drove a little and I manually selected 3rd gear and left it there, approached a mini roundabout an=d slowed to an almost stop, the box selected 2nd gear and remained there for quite some time, I was gently accelerating to see at what point it changed, the engine was at 4600 rpm |

I'd like to see the mess left behind if someone called mine a gaylander, you know you want to come back to the fold, just do it CG, the old RRS you have must be looking a little dated.

They don't guzzle it though, the figures are surprisingly very good.
