many new vehicles are now being fitted with a humidity sensor linked to the AC but would seems a strange place to put it if it was ?

looks like an LED or remote sensor Jaguar x-type sport gone

I am sure all will be revealed in time, ambient light sensor sounds plausible though

I agree, I think the prize is going to Richard, I'll try it out tomorrow.

Well I'm withholding that prize temporarily Confused

Just been into town and back with the 'sensor' covered over with tape, the sat nav day/night is set to 'Auto' in the setup but display showed daylight setting all the time. Also turned on lights to see if that made a difference, but no so the jury is still out.
Maybe it dims it to take the harshness/contrast off the screen in varying light but has nothing to do with the day/night screen control which maybe uses the windscreen light sensor.
Still waiting to hear back from the dealer Rolling Eyes

I don't know about the LR satnav, but I believe my Garmin switches to night mode according to time, not light level.

Like you I had the Garmin in my previous SD4 and as you say it worked by time, as for this sensor I'm a bit baffled as to it's purpose still.

Just relieved that I've got one, whatever it is. I don't like to feel left out.

It's a sensor

Just had an Email from my dealer and what LR technical says it is

Quote:
“It's actually a light sensor which is monitoring ambient lighting levels in conjunction with a couple of other dashboard sensors. In short it automatically dims the Dash and Navigation illumination in various modes. It can also increase the lighting level if the sun is exceptionally bright.”

So prize does go to Richard and Dave Thumbs Up unfortunately it's to close to Xmas so I'll have to owe you Embarassed

Just picked up my FL2 dynamic today and the dealer said it was the ambient temp sensor. So when you have your fan on auto it keeps the cabin temp according to the temp selected on the dials. Idea If you look real close you can see it's mesh in the hole and not a light.

But doesn't the ambient temp monitor both left and right sides of the cabin?
