Does the 2014 Freelander still require the Sat Nav DVD map updates? If so how often do Land Rover update the maps and what will it set me back? Whistle MY14 Kahn Converted Dynamic - Fuji White Ebony/Pimento Interior

Sat Nav will be HDD, updates at the dealer through the USB port, not cheap, would be cheaper to buy a new Tom Tom very year. DVD's finished when the MY13 model came out. p****d off with a Digital Keyboard Warrior

HDD Confused It's the Dynamic so it has a sat nav as standard so no tom tom for me. Being looking through an old 2012 broucher and noticed it required the sat nav update discs. Would have been a nice feature if the current model was auto updates wishful thinking..... Rolling with laughter MY14 Kahn Converted Dynamic - Fuji White Ebony/Pimento Interior

A replacement set of DVD's to update the pre-2013 models was in the region of £160 if bought from the official supplier.
An update to the HDD system for 2013 models is about the same price, unless you can persuade the Dealer to do it for less and requires a visit to the Dealer for it to be installed.

Above statement very true plus if you go off roading / visit FC tracks all you will have on the screen is green back ground and the position symbol as, unlike the Disco/RR anywhere off the public highway is disabled on the FL2.
Unlike a Tom Tom which unless you are at the North Pole will show you exactly where you.
Also Tom Toms on sale today now have lifetime free updating so no visits to the stealer (I think 4 times per year) and can also be fitted with speed camera and live traffic info.

2013 Freelander 2 SatNav is identical to the SatNav is all the other LR/RR vehicles and has an On Road and an Off Road function enabled. The change between modes bring Sat Nav up onto the screen and then press the Nav Hard Key and both options will be available, select the one you and do the same again to reselect the other option.

Well that is new. 2009MY cars do not have this function as when it was queried on this forum the answer was that you may take your vehicle somewhere which is beyond its capabilities.

Yes you're right. Freelander 2 didn't get the offroad satnav function until 2103 MY.

Go along to a LR Experience Centre and you will see just how capable the Freelander 2 is offroad. The only thing that stops it going everywhere the Discovery goes is a lower ground clearance and low range gearbox. Not much you can do about ground clearance but the lack of low range can be overcome to a large extent by correct use of the available systems and a bit of good old fashioned progressive braking.

Do not need to do that. Got a job driving Rally Officials on forest stage rallies and it goes good. See post 4 on page 14 of topic below and keeping on the right track using Tom Tom sat nav.

I'm considering doing a first update when it's 2nd service is due next year. JLR are doing it for £169 which seems reasonable, I think last year when in checked it was around £260 mark?!

United Kingdom 2013 Freelander 2 SD4 Dynamic Auto Fuji White

Just updated my MY2013 HDD using the usb stick last week. Bought it direct from "here" maps website. £169.
Beware it takes forever (nearly 3 hours) to update, and a good half hour before it says its got to 5% from 0%, so don't give up and think its got stuck!

The USB says it has the 2016 maps on it, but there's nothing on the screen to tell you anything's different.
