United Kingdom 2009 Freelander 2 TD4_e S Manual Stornoway Grey

I think this topic crops up on most car forums on an irregular basis as supporters/detractors come and go. i am firmly in the convinced camp albeit the benefits do seem to vary from car to car, engine to engine and will admit my Audi A2 benefits much more noticably than the Freelander. At the moment I am on Vpower and no 2SO simply because I ran out so will be interested to see what difference it makes. I am also now using a DTUK green tuning box which if nothing else has helped reduce the initial throttle 'lurch' so almost worth it for that alone. eh tu?

Crikey youv'e missed the hottest topic in town!

There is a view (pretty well argued by someone with serious insider knowledge of the subject) that adding 300mls of 2SO to a tank of fuel (especially if you use cheap supermarket stuff) will help reduce wear on various components like turbo, keep injectors, fuel pumps etc cleaner and provide a better cleaner burn thus reducing emissions and smoke and extending the life of critical engine components. In some cases there is an increase in MPG as well.
Many do this (incl me tho I don't really see much MPG increase if honest. Shell Nitro+ does this however).

Others say cobblers its just snake oil / phantasy/ positively insane / will wreck your engine, invalidate your warranty etc etc.

There is not a lot of "hard" evidence able to be fielded by advocates and there is no evidence at all that I have seen anyway, able to be fielded by detractors.

Interesting to read the early posts tho all 70+ are not needed!!!

Yep, I know all about it, I was one of the original "snake oil" advocates Thumbs Up

P.S. phantasy Question Question , try Fantasy Thumbs Up Laughing

I don't read it each time, it just brings a smile to my face when I pop in now and then and have a sneeky at it. I've already said my piece back in the early days, not adding anymore comments to it in case I get me knuckles wrapped Laughing

wow, spelling police active here too!
For information though there's nothing wrong with phantasy as opposed to fantasy just a bit old fashioned and older English rather than more current American style.

2-S oil (non-synthetic)

The main point of adding approx 200:1 mixture of 2-S oil is to lubricate the high pressure fuel pump rams & cylinders (common rail injection) because of their very tight tolerances. If ordinary (low sulphur) diesel fuel is not treated, then excessive wear will take place in the pump eventually, leading to a lower pressure output which will result in the required injection pressure not being reached. In turn this will lead to poor combustion, less performance, black smoke from the exhaust when you put your foot down and increased fouling of the engine internals. "Super" diesel is better for this necessary extra lubrication, but in my humble opinion, 300ml of 2-s oil is far superior when added to ordinary fuel.

Several people in this thread have referred to "homeopathic" quantities of two-stroke oil added to the fuel.

This would mean waving a bottle of two stroke oil next to the fuel filler for 10 seconds.

That is fine, you don't want fully synthetic (apart from anything else it's too costly), you do want low ash. I use the very cheapest I can find Recently Amazon has been a good source but I always check Tesco and other supermarkets / hardware outlets for special offers!

I might get a bottle then for 3 quid. I only put 60 quid in at a time so that bottle of 2 stroke should last me 3 fill ups. Black MY2013 SD4 GS Auto, Wood Company Armrest, Freel2 sticker.

In what engine do you intend to use it?
This is OK if you don't have DPF (JASO-FB norm, at least that's stated on bottle).
I have used similar oil (same norm JASO-FB) in my Mondeo mk3 in larger quantities.
First two tanks 1 liter on full tank, third 0.5 liter, and after that 0.25 liter on full tank.
BUT i don't have DPF.
If you have DPF you are supposed to use JASO-FC+ of JASO-FD
Glad if I could help.
