I am with you on this - fed up with those idiots who think they can just overtake when it is not safe to do so, especially when there is only a small gap between you and the person in front!

As far as I am concerned, if it means damage to my vehicle from an idiot overtaking - quite simply, he is not getting in..... Full stop.

And if that upsets them, too bad!

They should give a little more thought to what it is they are trying to achieve in the first place then they should leave a little earlier.

No hosay, they are not going to force me into a hard breaking scenario ever again. Been there, bought the t-shirt had to pay for the damage.

One nutter was overtaking me at over 65mph on a crest of a hill. I was in a Discovery2 and could not see over the crest, did not have a clue if anything was coming the other side, the offender was in a small Renault. I was towing a caravan, what carnage could have ensued?

Lost count of people overtaking on blind bends!

And the amount of people who at the last minute pull across you to take an exit, speechless!

Yes, loads do tailgate, overtake to take the small gap in front.

They still try, but get a fright with the pickup of the SD4 and get upset when they have to break hard themselves. Cannot understand why they get upset, after all they would only gain 4.5 mts.

Not at all, having lived here for 20 years I regard Scotland as my home now so I do not feel contradicted.

Well.... Please accept driving a Freely you are not the fastest vehicle on the road, therefore please leave sufficient space between you and the vehicle in front for faster cars to pull in, trust me this will cost you nothing, they wont be there for too long! This especially true when towing a caravan, as an avid tower I am always aware that I can potentially impede others progress and always maintain a reasonable gap in front of me to assist their overtaking manoeuvres

I remember one time having to block an idiot over taking me in a 30 zone, outside shop and post office in local town, he had been agressivley tailgating me for 1/2 mile or so, then tried to overtake in a riduculous place,

sadly i wasnt paying attention to the road ahead and some silly cow pullout infront of me,we scraped together , one road 3 cars only me in the right place ,

so now if someone tailgates aggressvly I simply adopt blocking tactics until its safe then i let them go, nothing silly i just drive on the lines etc so they cant get by At work

Personally I'd rather leave a decent amount space between me and the vehicle in front and I expect the person behind me to do the same. It makes for much more relaxed driving, allows for much better vision ahead and gives plenty of time to adjust speeds up or down as appropriate. It also makes for easier overtaking by me as I can build up some speed before pulling out and I have good vision ahead. That is how I was taught to ride motorcycles and drive cars. I was also taught to make progress, which is something that seems to be lacking, but above all, to ride to ARRIVE.

I no longer tow a caravan in the UK and have not done so for 8 years - all my towing is abroad and before we get any more of your silly quips my caravan is parked in Germany.

I have many miles under my belt and indeed had a HGV class 1 licence - no longer as no need for it, so I am pretty much okay as far as the rules of the land go and do give space for more than one car, I do not tailgate but, when I see some lunatic coming down the road too fast to jump in front of me and potential pebble dash me with stones - been there bought the t- shirt, not a chance.

The Freelander SD4 slow, not much power - do not make assumptions, they can motor very impressively if you need to, it is called pedal on the right!

Ah, so more is revealed! An ex (maybe frustrated?) HGV driver missing out on the convoy syndrome (allegedly to save fuel.....yeah right!....we've all seen you too many times on the motorways, the unfortunate results are history)
