Hi Oldgezzer,

I am with you on this - fed up with those idiots who think they can just overtake when it is not safe to do so, especially when there is only a small gap between you and the person in front!

As far as I am concerned, if it means damage to my vehicle from an idiot overtaking - quite simply, he is not getting in..... Full stop.

And if that upsets them, too bad!

They should give a little more thought to what it is they are trying to achieve in the first place then they should leave a little earlier.

No hosay, they are not going to force me into a hard breaking scenario ever again. Been there, bought the t-shirt had to pay for the damage.

My philosophy is that I will not be out of pocket again for some mindless idiot, including the idiot above who thinks it alright!

He needs to try and pull in front of me sometime, I promise he will back off! Idiot! 'There is thunder' then 'There is the warble of a V8'

Oh, forgot to say,

One nutter was overtaking me at over 65mph on a crest of a hill. I was in a Discovery2 and could not see over the crest, did not have a clue if anything was coming the other side, the offender was in a small Renault. I was towing a caravan, what carnage could have ensued? Shocked

Lost count of people overtaking on blind bends!

And the amount of people who at the last minute pull across you to take an exit, speechless!

Yes, loads do tailgate, overtake to take the small gap in front.

I do about 40k miles a year, small fry to some, still I point blankly refuse to endanger my life for the sake of a Censored idiot.

They still try, but get a fright with the pickup of the SD4 Laughing and get upset when they have to break hard themselves. Cannot understand why they get upset, after all they would only gain 4.5 mts.

They should either grow a pair or fit some blue lights, I let them pass all the time Rolling with laughter 'There is thunder' then 'There is the warble of a V8'

Now,now do not get all nationalistic on me - be rest assured all the nationals here in Scotland could teach people down south a lesson on good manners.

Besides I am from down south I have just been living up here for past 20 years. In Lincolnshire as it may happen! Yeah had a moment or two when I lived there for 5 years. Yawn

And my 40k includes driving in Scotland, England, France, Belgium, Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Italy not all at the same time I might say Rolling with laughter

The most impatient I have found? Well I guess England gets that accolade - IMO of course. Laughing

But having been almost killed many times, had to use my own insurance due to accident caused by others who have sped of into the sunset!

I am just stating a fact, enough is enough of those bully drivers who think they can force there way into a slot that they can hardly fit into and then slamming on the anchors because Jeez Bow down they are travelling to fast!

I have joined the self preservation society - I no longer pay for other people's mistakes, just my own Rolling with laughter

So kola by all means overtake, but don't cut me up, it is offensive, dangerous and against the law - if you cannot deal with that simples hand your driving licence back Thumbs Up

Like I said, I support those that are trying to get from A to B without idiots carrying out manoeuvres that results in damage or harm to like minded people.

Oh, please do not offend the locals they are not boarders Rolling with laughter they are across the border!

Jeez some people are so impatient on the computer never mind the road, to take a moment to use the dictionary. Thumbs Up 'There is thunder' then 'There is the warble of a V8'

If they want to risk their life then that's fine by me, bash on. I let them go.

Most often than not the people that end up being killed are the innocent parties and the reckless fools that cause the accident live.

My life and my passengers lives are worth more than that.

I take the same attitude when driving my coach, I don't care if I get to my destination a few minutes late, and even just one passenger says "that was a pleasant journey driver" then in my eyes I've done my job. 21MY Defender 90 S 3.0 D200

Not at all, having lived here for 20 years I regard Scotland as my home now so I do not feel contradicted.

But unfortunately I have lived all over the UK and in parts of Europe - and I do not mind suggesting in my opinion that the quality of driving is far safer in Scotland. Of course, perhaps circumstances dictate that fact I do not know but give an opinion.

The original op was annoyed about getting his window chipped - I offer support to him and every other unfortunate soul who has had his expensive mode of transport damaged by those who frankly do not give a damn Big Cry

So I wager that when your car is damaged - I doubt we will have you on here bleating about the fact.

Dear Stuck In The Mud (we can only wish) Shocked

Clarification.......
My main issue with your post is this.... Quote"I am with you on this - fed up with those idiots who think they can just overtake when it is not safe to do so, especially when there is only a small gap between you and the person in front!

As far as I am concerned, if it means damage to my vehicle from an idiot overtaking - quite simply, he is not getting in..... Full stop.
And if that upsets them, too bad! "

Well.... Please accept driving a Freely you are not the fastest vehicle on the road, therefore please leave sufficient space between you and the vehicle in front for faster cars to pull in, trust me this will cost you nothing, they wont be there for too long! This especially true when towing a caravan, as an avid tower I am always aware that I can potentially impede others progress and always maintain a reasonable gap in front of me to assist their overtaking manoeuvres

Your whole post comes across with a very aggressive attitude, almost road rage on the net!! Something we could all do without methinks, so do try to chiil a bit my 'friend' Wink Kola is the big solid black German Shepherd, Dobbie is.......a breed you've never heard of......yet;)

I remember one time having to block an idiot over taking me in a 30 zone, outside shop and post office in local town, he had been agressivley tailgating me for 1/2 mile or so, then tried to overtake in a riduculous place,

sadly i wasnt paying attention to the road ahead and some silly cow pullout infront of me,we scraped together , one road 3 cars only me in the right place ,

so now if someone tailgates aggressvly I simply adopt blocking tactics until its safe then i let them go, nothing silly i just drive on the lines etc so they cant get by At work

Personally I'd rather leave a decent amount space between me and the vehicle in front and I expect the person behind me to do the same. It makes for much more relaxed driving, allows for much better vision ahead and gives plenty of time to adjust speeds up or down as appropriate. It also makes for easier overtaking by me as I can build up some speed before pulling out and I have good vision ahead. That is how I was taught to ride motorcycles and drive cars. I was also taught to make progress, which is something that seems to be lacking, but above all, to ride to ARRIVE.

Kola bear you have got me all wrong!

I no longer tow a caravan in the UK and have not done so for 8 years - all my towing is abroad and before we get any more of your silly quips Laughing my caravan is parked in Germany.

I have many miles under my belt and indeed had a HGV class 1 licence - no longer as no need for it, so I am pretty much okay as far as the rules of the land go and do give space for more than one car, I do not tailgate but, when I see some lunatic coming down the road too fast to jump in front of me and potential pebble dash me with stones - been there bought the t- shirt, not a chance.

The Freelander SD4 slow, not much power - do not make assumptions, they can motor very impressively if you need to, it is called pedal on the right!

My post road rage, nah, just a little fed up with idiots who think they can force other road users in to situations that they neither want or need, guess you need a little bit of pebble damage, it will loosen up your attitude or wallet Rolling with laughter

Ah, so more is revealed! An ex (maybe frustrated?) HGV driver missing out on the convoy syndrome (allegedly to save fuel.....yeah right!....we've all seen you too many times on the motorways, the unfortunate results are history)

I rest my case and no further comment from me on this issue JUST LEAVE ROOM! Kola is the big solid black German Shepherd, Dobbie is.......a breed you've never heard of......yet;)
