Does this count?

Quote:
I have seen how 2 stroke oil has caused major component damage to a fully reconditioned common rail diesel fuel system. The 2 stroke oil appeared to have prevented the 50ppm diesel from lubricating the components effectively and thus, causing said moving parts to wear prematurely to the point of failure.

From this earlier post

Not that I'm put off by it. I've heard too many reports of good results with 2 stroke oil over long periods/high mileages + my car is running just fine with 2 stroke oil @ 200:1 (and I'll leave you to judge the credibility of the person who posted that report since I'm not allowed by the recent forum rulings).

I do not belive it, with this scenario it is like running a chain saw without 2SO in petrol. Diesel fuel alone is a lubricant and adding 0.5% clean burning oil will not de-lube it. Saw mixture is ca 4% oil in petrol and it must lube the the bearings at much higher speeds like 12krpm or higher.

So failure thru lack of lubricant with 2SO it is Rolling with laughter Ner Ner Censored and BS!

Think like an engineer, not like a service manager.

It may wash loose all the crap what is in tank, lines and filter and the particles got in the HP IP and do the damage. Like with biodiesel it it recommended to change the fuel filter very soon.

A lubrication test can be easy made with a test bench for oil like this

Add weights with diesel and then with 0,5% 2SO oil diesel mix.

Been commuting 150 miles a day in a Renault dci and been averaging 53.4 mpg every week constant.
Added TSO for the last three tank fills and been averaging 56.9 and its lost its horrid flat spot !

Just a wee update. I'm now on about the twelfth full tank of 1:200 2SO in my Euro 4 dCi 86 Micra and it's running perfectly. Absolutely aced it's last MOT, the engine's smooth as Barry White bathing in double cream and it goes like an absolute stabbed rat with no exhaust smoke whatsoever Very Happy.

Adding 2 stroke oil to my diesel Freelander

I know this has been mentioned before, but would it do any harm if I added some 2 stroke oil when filling my tank with diesel? My Freelander is 5 years old and has only done 34000 miles, but I find the engine is more noisy than when I bought it new. I was advised that I could add approx 100ml of 2 stroke oil to 30 ltrs of diesel. But, another person said that if my vehicle has a Diesel Particulate Filter, then adding the oil would do more damage.
Usually, when filling up, I put some diesel additive in the tank, similar to what Halfords sell. But again, I've been told that it's a waste of time and money. What's you opinion and advice.

Thanks
Steve.

Crikey youv'e missed the hottest topic in town!

There is a view (pretty well argued by someone with serious insider knowledge of the subject) that adding 300mls of 2SO to a tank of fuel (especially if you use cheap supermarket stuff) will help reduce wear on various components like turbo, keep injectors, fuel pumps etc cleaner and provide a better cleaner burn thus reducing emissions and smoke and extending the life of critical engine components. In some cases there is an increase in MPG as well.
Many do this (incl me tho I don't really see much MPG increase if honest. Shell Nitro+ does this however).

Others say cobblers its just snake oil / phantasy/ positively insane / will wreck your engine, invalidate your warranty etc etc.

There is not a lot of "hard" evidence able to be fielded by advocates and there is no evidence at all that I have seen anyway, able to be fielded by detractors.

Interesting to read the early posts tho all 70+ are not needed!!!

Should have said that for your F2 (MY2007 without a DPF unit) you would need to use NON synthetic 2SO.
All that is spelled out though. Happy reading
