Stuck Fuel Flap

The fuel flap is stuck.

Basically, fuse 25 blew, which controls the rear boot open/close micro switch and the fuel flap. Got the usual boot open message. Put another fuse in and worked fine until I locked the car, then opened it and the fuse blew again.

Put another fuse in, but didn't lock the car and the boot works fine both manually and on remote, however the fuel flap doesn't open, so I presume its the problem.

From what I can see the fuel flap lock is accessed from the offside rear wheel arch. I've not that that dismantled before. Any ideas, diagrammes or instructions to help please?

It's the motor from the fuel flap that's blowing up the fuse.
And this because the Central Junction Box is energizing it too much and during time the motor fails.
There is even a bulletin for this problem (LTB00292) which suggests reflashing the CJB.

The bulleting here: https://www.freel2.com/gallery/albums/user...ilgate.pdf

The description of the problem here:

Hi Alex, I did think you might know, having researched previous threads. Thumbs Up

From what the bulletin says, it's a replacement motor and a re flash at the dealers? Sorry, but LR bulletins arnt the easiest things to decipher.

I had hoped new motor or clean the old one up and a new fuse might have done. What's your understanding?

All this talk of CEM and SSM is a bit confusing to the novice.

CEM = Central Electronics Module, the same thing as CJB - Central Junction Box.
It's at the passenger's feet, the big box with the fuses on its bottom.

SSM - Special Service Message, an information message to the dealers from LR.

Indeed, maybe a new motor is not necessary as you can rebuild the old one (but a new one is better), together with the reflash, because if you don't reflash it, in time, it will happen all over again.

Thanks, I've got the wheel off and plastic inner shield. I can see the thing, but not sure how to get it off. Rolling Eyes

Update, a bit of lateral twisting and the electrical unit came off. I insulated the loose associated electrical multiplug. Changed the fuse for new and hey presto, the central locking and boot works fine. The only thing is the fuel flap just opens, locked or not, but I can live with that. I might take the unit apart and see exactly what's wrong with it. Haven't decided if ill replace it or not. It ain't essential.

Update to update, not really a bit you can repair, however I got into it. In essence there is only a small electric motor that can fail. So either put up with a non locking fuel flap or replace. Would a new one last 5 years and fail without the update or would it fail pretty soon after being replaced? It's just I can see the dealer charging me an arm and a leg. Rolling Eyes
