900 miles after the failure of my Haldex unit the rear differential bearing failed ! Cost to repair from main dealer £536 less contribution from LR and the car still hasn't done 21,000 miles yet.

Apparently, according to my dealer, the Haldex unit and the rear diff. bearing are relatively common faults on the Freelander 2 but they had never had both go on the same car in such a relatively short time.

While the job was being done I was lent a brand new, 700 miles on the clock, SD Evoque. Was really impressed with the drive only snag was it was the basic manual version and I found the clutch and gearbox uninspiring.

I am very close with three LR dealers, and none of them class the diff or Haldex unit as a common failure. Freelander 2 HSE Lux 2013MY - Barolo Black with Ivory Leather. Alpine DVD - Privacy -Evoque 20" Dynamic Wheels and more to come.........

My dealer used the word 'common' as opposed to frequent and think that he was making the point that the Freelander was relatively reliable and if there were any problems then it was the problems I experienced ! Don't know.

Always trade in my personal cars before the 3rd service and MOT but wrongly did not do this with the LR because I had other expenditures on the go !

Before retirement had BMW, Merc, Audi company cars and did up to 40,000 miles per annum without serious problems. Must just have been unlucky this time.

Although my legal contract is with the dealer/retailer Land Rover Customer Relationships Dept. (Customer Services has moved on !) were very helpful despite me having to push hard.

hmmm being as you're in Norfolk that narrows down the dealerships some what. I can recomend, if you do have any further LR products, travel a little further to Marshalls at Cambridge..or Peterborough. I no longer use any dealers in Norfolk..read into that what you like!

My dealership is actually in Suffolk and has many franchises including LR. Had new cars from them before but this is my first LR.

Have an independent within a few miles but not sure what they are like.

That narrows it down a bit !

Just taken ours in as the rear diff was about to explode, and the service manager referred to it as a "known" problem. Known and common are clearly not the same however. The warranty recently expired but fair play he knows SWMBO is a regular cusotmer and that this one is up for replacement soon, so instantly said if it was the diff he'd speak to LR. He asked how many LR's she had had from them (4 so far), and I pointed out there was a big shiny D3 outside the window that I was picking her up in and I'd owned nothing but LR's for 20 years. Hopefully someone will be digging around the goodwill drawer..... I certainly don't expect to pay for a 'known' problem aka design/manufacturing failure.

Tony

You could always speak to Mike@LandRover, he is on this forum. He helped me with some goodwill for a new door latch on my car which was 2 months out of warranty. Black MY2013 SD4 GS Auto, Wood Company Armrest, Freel2 sticker.

Thanks - dealer is contacting LR. Delaer reckons its £600 for the rear diff pinion bearing. I know Liam@LR on the d3 forum so will see what they come back with.

Kept telling SWMBO to tell them at the services there was a noise as it has been like it from day one but she "couldn't hear anything" Rolling Eyes

Problem I have with noise is that I read something on here then next thing I know I can hear the same noise! Shocked I asked the mechanic on the last service and he basically said the Internet can cause more trouble than its worth! Lol Black MY2013 SD4 GS Auto, Wood Company Armrest, Freel2 sticker.

Rear diff repaired and a leaky injector at no cost Very Happy under LR goodwill. Happy with that, IMHO the diff was design/manufacture defect anyway and 100% LR, but leaky injector was debatable out of warranty so another F2 will be a contender when this one is due to be replaced (assuming nothing else dramatic goes wrong over the next few months!)

We and dealer had to make the case, but car has had no warranty claims at all until just after the warranty expired ( Rolling Eyes ), dealer serviced from new, 4th new Freelander we've had from them and we are a 2 LR household. Thumbs Up

Moral of the story, only get lease contract for the warranty period....... Cool

Just had my rear diff pinion bearing changed 32500 miles on a 11MY TD4. From what Dealer said it is now becoming an issue with the number of similar failures and LR are aware.

If the rear diff pinion bearing noise sounds like the whine from a jet engine from the rear axle, then I would hazard a guess that is what mine is in the garage for. 2010 manual TD4 with 31k, and the Haldex was changed a year ago. _________________
