Australia 2008 Freelander 2 TD4 SE Auto Lago Grey

Out here in Australia it is almost exclusively Toyota utilities (pickups) out on the farms. Either Land Cruiser 70's or Hilux.....they have a solid network of spare parts and people capable of working on them even if the area is extremely remote. They also have a reputation of unmatched reliability. Land Rovers are very much in the minority and not held very highly with regards to reliability. I don't live remote but my nearest Land Rover dealer is an hours freeway drive away yet my nearest Toyota dealer is 15 minutes with no freeway. It's a pity because Land Rovers are much better to drive than Toyotas, although Defenders are a bit rough. Just about the only people driving Defenders are 4wd enthusiasts.

United Kingdom 2009 Freelander 2 TD4 XS Manual Lago Grey

At this point your guess is as good as ours - every time things seem to be settling down another spanner gets thrown into the works! A new Freelander (which may not be called that) is expected in 2015, but beyond that...

Note, by the way, that although people are talking about a 'mini Discovery' or 'Discovery Sport' what they're really talking about is a brand new platform which is used as the basis for both a new Discovery and a new 'Freelander' - there's not going to be a mini D4. And the Discovery Sport already exists - it's just called the RRS!

This is just a test mule. The new FL3 will (hopefully!) not resemble the Evoque.

"The biggest news however is that the 3rd generation of Land Rovers Freelander (The Freelander 3) might be produced in conjunction with Chery for not only china’s market but internationally as well! The new Freelander is set to feature seats for 7 passengers and potentially use Chery’s 2.0 litre engine that they currently use in their Rich G5 and G6 models. Eitherway having Chery on board with increased production in China can only help bring down production costs of all JLR’s vehicles. Something that may not be good news when you consider the longevity of their UK Plants."

JLR have just spent millions building an engine plant here in the UK to produce there own hot fire engines which will go into the next generation of cars. 21MY Defender 90 S 3.0 D200

What's the point in 16 new LRs? I like that Land Rovers aren't common (well, where I live they seem to be). It's nice to have something a little different to everyone else. I think that the current range of LRs is great, all we need now is the new Discovery and Freelander.

@TurboDan- I'm with you on the DC100, I thought it looked great.

The Freelander will always be remembered for its often unreliable and problematic 1.8 Rover K series engine. Many owners have had them from new and never had a problem, but owners with problems always shout louder than those without.

Same with my old Saab. Some people swore by them, but mine was a reliability horror movie. Truly spent more time in the shop than on the road. But when it worked, it was probably the best car I've ever driven (minus torque steer!). 2.0 turbo, manual, every bell and whistle, incredibly high quality leather seats... truly a dream! CAR HISTORY

There comes a point when continually re-engineering a car to meet the continual flood of legislation coming out Brussels becomes uneconomic and it is easier to start with a clean sheet.

And the "continual flood of legislation coming out" of Washington. Being barred from selling a major component of your fleet in one of the biggest markets in the world – and arguably THE biggest market for SUVs in the world – has to make the suits at JLR cringe. CAR HISTORY

I've always liked the style of the Disco...but not its size..way too big for me...this could be the answer.

Agree completely. I like the Disco (LR4 here) all around, especially its expanded Terrain Response, 4lo and locker (I enjoy taking my FL2 offroad), but it's just too big for me. I'm a single guy. Mr. Green

A scaled down Disco would be perfect for me. CAR HISTORY
