United Kingdom 2012 Freelander 2 TD4 GS Auto Orkney Grey

Just made a trip to Bath and back. Not worked out MPG yet as still loads left in tank. Current range + distance travelled = 590 so well pleased. At one time, following 1 hours cruise without stop on motorway and courtesy of 50 MPH roadworks for a few miles sum total went up to 717. Amazing but went back to 650 as soon as restriction ended. Traffic in town put it back down though. Very Happy 12MY 61plate FL2 TD4 auto GS Orkney Grey Roof spoiler full size spare

Scotland 2011 Freelander 2 SD4 HSE Auto Fuji White

Today did a single journey from Ayr to Aberdeen - total miles = 180

Trip computer was showing 39.99 mpg

So decided to put this to the test!

Car took 20.35litres.

20.35 = 4.7 gallons / 180 = 38.3 mpg

Taking into consideration the terrain, I am we'll chuffed with that!

The journey was very tedious as I did not go above 70 mph and the vast majority was 60...65mph 'There is thunder' then 'There is the warble of a V8'

SD4 HSE Fuji White (my car): sidesteps, door protection
Golf 2.0 tdi White (wife's car)
Triumph Stag (my 1975 V8 toy - 37,600 miles... Just started its 2nd restoration... had it since 1986)

Tiguan Summit (gone, but nice car)
Porsche Boxster (gone, it was too fast)
SLK (gone, did not like it - lost loads £s)
Discovery Cairngorm (gone,very tractor like)
+ loads of other cars

United Kingdom 2013 Freelander 2 TD4_e S Manual Sumatra Black

Hi I was a bit interested in this and have had my TD4 manual since Feb 13 so kept a a bit of a record up until now 3000 miles.
The best I had was 42.6 on a 70 mile run to Luton Hoe for a LR experience day although not rushing. It must have been trying to impress me on the way to LR centre. But on a run on A roads I am more often than not pushing up towards the 40 MPG
Below are the mileages that I have calculated from mileage and litres put in the tank ,
36.85 From new being very gentle
33.86 Lots of short runs
32.34 Lots of short runs
35.33 mixed driving
37.45 mixed driving
37.55 mixed driving
I think like all larger engines the run from cold is the real drain on economy and if you were to push it past 80 that none of us do .
Interesting to hear that remapping maps a positive difference so things can only get better. I think this is pretty good consumption for a perm 4x4 and relatively heavy vehicle. Certainly I have no complaints. e-melnow

Hi,

So..........yesterday was my turn!!! First decent run I've had in wifey's new toy, from Boston to Lincoln to Newark & return.
Her comment as we drove off was...."bet you don't get the mpg I do!".

Well, VERY mixed driving from a bit of fast lorry overtaking on the A17; small section of dual carrigway (75mph on cruise control); and some very heavy stop/start traffic in Lincoln ( stop/start function working very well)

Result?..... 90mile round trip, 41mpg so..... Ner Ner to her.....hehehehe

BTW unfortuately 'tripped' over a very nice pub with great food at Norton Disney( yes it seems Walt was there in the 20's tracing his ancestry) ....guess these things happen Wink (between Lincoln & Newark if ever your in the area!) Kola is the big solid black German Shepherd, Dobbie is.......a breed you've never heard of......yet;)

All deisels improve with mileage usually taking anywhere between 10k and 20k miles to reach their best. they also benefit from an ocassional Italian tune-up too from time to time. I have run diesels for over 27 years avaeraging 20k miles annually across a range of cars from clapped out Citroen BX's to Mercs, Audis/VW's MG and to highly tuned Astra Cdti 888 amongst too many to remember (around 35 at the last count). Since around 2000 almost all have been re-mapped with economy gains. As i posted elsewhere there are many variables including fuel quality, tyre rolling resistance, weather etc which are often overlooked when comparing mpg figures but most of all driver style and ability are the most significant. I have found some drivers don't know how to get the best out of diesel and still drive them like a petrol hot hatch. eh tu?

Drive it with gusto! Give it a good work out! Blow away the cobwebs (or in the case of diesel, 'soot)!!! A good hard drive now and again works wonders for any car but especially a diesel. eh tu?

My Mrs is getting 33-35 out of her 2011 td4 which I am impressed by and it only drops to 30 when ever I drive it. Dead chuffed to be honest as mine only does between 13-18 depending on conditions and right foot.

Hi,

Wifey's usual journey this week of 270m returned............45mpg!!!!! (indicated) Just seems to be getting better and better as she gets more used to using it. Although no slouch when driving, she says she is happy to keep to the legal limit on motorways, with the essential cruise control on and ipod connected Smile We are also sure that the stop/start function saves a lot of fuel in the heavy traffic areas Kola is the big solid black German Shepherd, Dobbie is.......a breed you've never heard of......yet;)

Just been up to Lancashire with the 'van on the back. Quite pleased to get 28 mpg with 2 up plus 1550kg hanging off the back and 27 mpg on the way back, with 3 up. Distance was 255 miles each way and using Shell V-Power only for the last two years. I intend to change the 07 SE TD manual for an MY2013 SD Auto later this year so will keen to see the difference.
