Without specifying tyres, fuel, weather, load etc comparing fuel economy is not easy and that's before you start with driving style, traffic conditions and so on. For what its worth I am getting around 40mpg solo using Vpower with Continental tyres (215 wide) on a cross country commute with a little bit of m/way and town traffic thrown in. On a gentle driving around Scotland last week 2 up +dog was getting 42-43 mpg, towing the 'van around 27-28. This is before i have swapped the airfilter and changed the oil to the new Millers nano tech oil which is claimed to increase power around 5% by reducing friction. This is with a 2009 'e' spec engine. eh tu? |

Pleasantly surprised by my new GS Auto. After the relatively excellent economy of my old manual (39mpg avg) I was concerned about the auto but so far 3000 ish miles and average is 36.4. That's mixed driving but admittedly a fair amount of motorway and A roads. (Coming) 2016 RR Evoque td4 180 HSE Dynamc

Likewise, I have a MY13 XS SD4 Auto and within just the first 500 miles mine has been recording 34.9 MPG per trip. That's as far as the car tells me I haven't recordred the figures manually yet, but very pleased as I too suspected less. Just hope that as the mileage grows the MPG will too. Joanne

I have achieved 34.7 over the last 5k miles running on branded diesel with Millers additive. I am now running a trial on V-Power. Started with 34.5 on first tankful but got stuck in 1 3/4 hr traffic jam on M25 so may be lower than expected. Will post again after 5 tanks. 12MY 61plate FL2 TD4 auto GS Orkney Grey Roof spoiler full size spare

Had my 2011 SD4 just over a week now and until today was a bit disappointed with the mpg. Mainly town driving was indicating 28 mpg on the trip computer but on a run around the Trossachs it was 39 mpg for the 75 mile round trip. Showed 42 mpg for the 1st 30 mile on A and B roads before we hit the hilly bits.

I do agree so far the on board computer does seem very close to real world mpg. For those with new cars you will find when mileage gets north of 10,000 economy will be showing an improvement against new. diesels take much longer to reach optimum running conditions than petrol. eh tu? |

Just returned from holiday in North Wales/Anglesey.Went Devon, Shropshire, Anglesey, South Wales and return Devon. 6 nights away roads a good mix of A,B and M. Two up in my 2010 GS keeping to speed limits, mostly, indicated mpg 43.3 over 865 miles. Well pleased. This figure should be accurate as previous brim to brim tests showed close agreement. No problems on journey apart from Welsh language signs. OK when I learned to read the lower part first!! |

On day to day use have never got more than 29 mpg over the two years had my SD4. Best return was on a trip to Norwich and back going via M11 and Newmarket and back on the A roads via Ipswich got 36 mpg but rarely get anywhere near this. |

First serious test of fuel economy. 1700 miles across France including crossing the Massif Central and the twisty narrow roads of Haut Provence. 28.6 mpg - not bad for a 3.2 petrol fully loaded. My Freelander 1 TD4 only used to return 30 mpg on a good run. Freelander 2 i6 3200 Petrol

Mozz that does sound a bit low but the mpg on older cars is not as good, and yours IS an auto.
