Thanks for the welcome Chris. Looking at MY11 most likely an SD4, any colour would do as long as it has leather. Can't believe some of the prices being asked for MY11 xs, as for 2K more you can get a MY12 HSE, which is out of my budget atm.

Looking shortly to being the owner of a freelander, probably 07/08 HSE.

Anything to watch out for ? Is 100k mileage ok on these engines ?

Budget 10-13k.

Hi Nick and welcome.

There are still some 07/08 HSEs out there with low mileage so your budget should get one of those.

100k is no big deal for the engine provided it has been serviced as per the book. It is the gearbox/transmission/rear diff that you need to check out. The gearbox should change smoothly and there should be no whining noises from the back. On a manual box make sure that the clutch takes up smoothly, the bite is not too near the top of the pedal travel and it does not slip when you floor the pedal in a high gear. Worn dual mass flywheels can give the impression of clutch slip and vibrate. John

Picking up my 2011 SD4 Sport LE on Tuesday. Coming from a world of BMW's so its a massive change but after driving it I was sold. Love the high up driving position and just the entire feel of the car...

But the first mod has to be to remove the factory fitted roof bars. Makes the car way too high.

It's great to hear that you are enjoying your Freelander. I like sportier cars too, but I find that the FL2 is powerful but comfortable. I love mine, it's the best car I have ever owned.

Hi, new member from South Africa. Owns a Disco 3 4.0L V6 petrol for towing heavy offroad caravan and a Freelander 2 i6 for driving around town and long distances with no or light towing, Freelander's giving us some electronic problems though....

Just bought a 10reg Freelander 2 HSE Td4e in Green (dont know which 'shade') Its got 'electric everything,' side steps 19" ?shadow alloys? and lots and lots of things i'm just discovering !
