Potential new owner

Hi All

My wife and I are expecting our first born and my current car is not well suited to heavily pregnant women or babies!

We are thinking about getting a Freelander and over on the Audi forms we regularly get potential owners linking to cars requesting some feedback from the people in the know! I've had a search for potential areas and noted a few things to check.

I have my eye on the following: http://www2.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201205221789754

It has 12 Months MOT and the service history is part Landover with the last service being a specialist garage. 1 owner from new and nothing dodgy in the history (apart from the private plate changes). The cost looks comparable to other similar models tho would brining the seller down closer to the 14K mark or have a years warranty thrown in.

Thanks for the help and I'm looking forward to contributing where I can!

1st question I going to ask how soon do you need it?

Reason being there will be FR2 coming on to the market from the 13 plate trade in...I picked mine up on Trade person adverting on ebay... Iain

Mmm I did think that myself, the linked FL2 is exactly the trim and options which my wife wants, also given the mileage and cost seems pretty competitive I don't think we will fair much better when the trade ins hit the forecourts. Tho I may give the local stealers a call as I would prefer to buy from landy dealer for the piece of mind however I suspect they won't have anything at 4+ years old. On the other hand the landy dealer will be more expensive tha an independent which could cancel out paying for an extended warranty.

Hmm it seems the car now has 82K on the clock and needs 2 front tyres I wonder if I would be better walking from this one!

England 2011 Freelander 2 TD4 XS Manual Baltic Blue

So it's gone up 12000 miles since the ad was placed and now needs 2 new tyres.
My first question is it the same vehicle as the one in the ad?
Second question, how come the mileage has gone up so much?

Two new tyres are going to be between £150 and £190 each.

I'd be tempted to walk, something doesn't seem quite right to me.

Freelander is an ideal vehicle for a family needing space for baby kit and the security of getting where you want to be in all weathers - good choice.
This is a nice spec on paper as HSE and it looks tidy inside and out fromthe pictures. 70k miles in 5 years is certainly OK but how come its suddenly gone up to 82k? Tyres are not an issues, they are a consumable and something to help you argue the price a bit or get the dealer to change (make sure to a proper brand, ideally matching the rears excatly).
As Papa Smurf says, worth looking round and even LR delaers may be ready to do a deal with a glut of trade-ins on the forecourt. Have you looked at the LR "Approved Used" car finder on the website? Gone... 2013 XS TD4 Manual Firenze Red
Gone... 2008 (09MY) XS Td4 Manual Stornaway Grey
Prior... 2003 G4 Discovery 2, 1998 Disco 1 and 1997 Disco 1 Company car before that
Also gone in Nov'13, after 7.5 yrs, to new owners with time for more TLC - 1980 Series III 88
Current 2015 Discovery Sport HSE 2.0

To be honest, you say it's the spec the wife wants, it is the standard spec for the HSE with an Auto Box, the only extras it has is a set of mud flaps, you should not have much trouble finding a similar spec, the dealer has just listed things it has which are standard to dress it up Thumbs Up

Hoping to get him down to the sub 14K mark given the mileage and tyres. The next service is the brake fluids and hoses which could be around £400. I have a feeling that the original mileage was incorrect as the dealer only inspected the car today. The car is owned by his brother in law who it sounds like put the car on their website as a favour. He has inspected it and told me about the tyres etc.

Looked at the LR website and for the spec, and even the higher mileage there's not a lot out there. I'm guessing LR dont like to take stock with higher mileages?

Head is confuddled! Big Cry

This is in my local stealers now:
http://www.usedvehicles.landrover.co.uk/vehicle/1960220

Advantages:

    2 years younger
    50K less miles
    Dealer warranty
    Dealer inspected
Dealer is down the road so I can easily bring it back should there be any issues.

Disadvantages
    XS not HSE
    No window tints

I'm wondering If I can throw my 15K and have land rover make up the remaining 5 up in the form of finance?

United Kingdom 2008 Freelander 2 TD4 SE Manual Santorini Black

Mine was full LR main dealer history by the local dealer in the area but as it was 72k miles, the LR dealer put it straight out to a trader around the corner.

I walked into the local LR dealer gave them the reg and said I was buying it from a local garage and they confirmed its history/recalls/software updates etc

They said they did not resell anything with mileage over the manufactures warranty mileage of 60k, irrespective of condition and owners it was traded out (this was the Exeter LR dealer) others may differ, I assume the risk is down to the manager.

You will find main dealers still selling 07/08 now, on occasions but it will be low mileage examples only( vehicles fitting in with the LR approved used scheme) see LR ref terms & conditions for approved used vehicles, they offer different warranties according to age/mileage..

When I bought my 08 SE one owner fsh, the main LR dealer had similar with lower miles of course around £3-5k more Smile

Buy what you can afford.

Think I would try and find another £5k, the LR Dealer will be selling that with LR Warranty I would expect, which is a lot safer, there was a member on here who bought one from a standard garage had a problem, took it back as it was under warranty, then found out the warranty only covered the engine and gearbox and to a maximum of £300.

It may look good but your vision is very poor with tints in certain conditions, my wife is very cautious at the best of times so reversing in car parks on wet dark nights is her pet hate.

Have you or your wife driven at night with tinted windows?
You can always tint them if they are not but you cannot remove the factory tint if you do not like it.

Window tints by a professional company is around £200 or is down here, I had mine done.

This one is a little bit more than the one at your local dealer but is a year newer and still has a years warranty on it.

Same here. The hairs are up on the back of my neck and I'm not even thinking of buying it! Have pm'd The OP and he tells me that the dealer is letting him deal direct with the seller, his 'Brother-in-Law'. RUN FOR THE HILLS!!! Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto
Evoque SD4 Dynamic Lux Auto
Present: Audi A3 S Line.

Yeah ill be staying miles away from that HSE and it smells like a fish market!

Does the XS come standard with bluetooth and PDC or are they an option extra on the MY2010 range?
