Brilliant, thank you. Think I will crimp the rest of the joints; my soldering-iron and my soldering skills are both somewhat 'rusty'. |

Once you remove the dashboard trim you can see the mounting bolts for the stereo. I crimped a fork terminal onto the earth lead and used the top left fixing - from memory its silver, 8mm spanner (M5). There are plenty of options for an earth once you get into the dash area. |

Update on this - until now it's been great but today it didn't switch on. Checked and the power was live, so had to remove the dash and have a look at it. Tried reconnecting but no joy. Tried manual switch ditto. Eventually held manual switch in for about 10 seconds and it came (hesitantly) to life. Did a reset to factory settings to be on the safe side, and it seems to work now. Not sure if that has also wiped my updates - will check later.

Mine has had one wobble, froze and wouldn't respond but managed to soft reset with factory setting menu, it did wipe the data but no great loss as its backed up on laptop so getting it back to normal has been fine, five minute job thats all.

Mine did exactly the same thing last weekend. The car had not been run for a while and so the TomTom battery was completely dead. When the ignition supply came on the TomTom did not respond at all. Had to take unit out and as you did hold the manual switch for a while. Been ok since but car has been run. Bryan |

OK I fitted a start 60 a few weeks ago, many thanks for the tips on this thread. As regards fitting I secured it with double sided tape backed up with heavy duty cable ties and foam blocks secured by the screws holding the original cubby, solid as a rock. I also went one step further and used the RDS-TMC traffic receiver which works well. I wanted to update the device easily so I used a short (50cm ) extension lead so all I have to do to connect to a laptop is pop off the top speaker cover. If you choose to do the same any extension will do from ebay but if you want the RDS-TMC accesory to work you will need an extension where all 5 pins are wired(most only have 4 of the 5 wired) Dont rely on tomtom support to tell you that, been there done that and wasted a lot of time!

To the person who sent me the private message, sorry apparently I can't reply until I've done 3 posts! However you'll find the answer earlier in this thread I think or on one of the otherthreads on this theme |
