United Kingdom 2012 Freelander 2 TD4 GS Manual Santorini Black

Got:

- TT Start 60,
- double-sided number-plate adhesive pads,
- Alu strips (fabricate brackets),
- Aux socket with 1M of twin flex soldered on,
- mini fuse adaptor with fly lead,

Have updated the TT with the latest s/w, added the black LR logo for start-up/shutdown and GB-OS graphics. Set power setting to shutdown on loss of external power/boot-up on power.

Need to file down "TomTom" logo.

Questions:

- any good graphics for the night-time/dark mode?
- What size nut will I need to the Earth / 0 V connection? (Guessing the earth stud is obvious once I have the dash out.)
- anything I have missed?

Thank you,
Harvey

I earthed mine to a stud very close to the fuse box. Already had a nut on it. Visible once you take off the fuse box cover.

Brilliant, thank you. Think I will crimp the rest of the joints; my soldering-iron and my soldering skills are both somewhat 'rusty'.

Once you remove the dashboard trim you can see the mounting bolts for the stereo. I crimped a fork terminal onto the earth lead and used the top left fixing - from memory its silver, 8mm spanner (M5). There are plenty of options for an earth once you get into the dash area.

Update on this - until now it's been great but today it didn't switch on. Checked and the power was live, so had to remove the dash and have a look at it. Tried reconnecting but no joy. Tried manual switch ditto. Eventually held manual switch in for about 10 seconds and it came (hesitantly) to life. Did a reset to factory settings to be on the safe side, and it seems to work now. Not sure if that has also wiped my updates - will check later.
Hopefully this was a one-off, but if not it could be a bit of a pain...

Mine has had one wobble, froze and wouldn't respond but managed to soft reset with factory setting menu, it did wipe the data but no great loss as its backed up on laptop so getting it back to normal has been fine, five minute job thats all.
Thought about being able to access the on/off button via the top speaker cover, that would save removing dash if ever needed.
Apart from that one occurence it has been very good. Thumbs Up

Mine did exactly the same thing last weekend. The car had not been run for a while and so the TomTom battery was completely dead. When the ignition supply came on the TomTom did not respond at all. Had to take unit out and as you did hold the manual switch for a while.

Been ok since but car has been run.

problem !!

Ive fittted mine this AM... I removed the old screen etc and the radio and CD unit doesnt work.. it comes on for a few seconds then switches off.
Ive plugged in the old screen back in and the radio works ok...but if i unplug any of the sockets then the radio switches off. It's still live as the time is in the bottom left of the screen..

any ideas...

balls

I got three plugs that plug into the old screen.
One is blue...radio doesn't go off if removed..this seems to control the touch scree..not plugged in touch screen doesnt work...
one is the main power, white plug with red and black wires..radio goes off if removed.
the third has like a flashing red light inside if that plugs into the old screen.... as soon as this comes out of the socket the red light inside it starts to flash and the radio goes off.... security measure ????

OK I fitted a start 60 a few weeks ago, many thanks for the tips on this thread. As regards fitting I secured it with double sided tape backed up with heavy duty cable ties and foam blocks secured by the screws holding the original cubby, solid as a rock. I also went one step further and used the RDS-TMC traffic receiver which works well. I wanted to update the device easily so I used a short (50cm ) extension lead so all I have to do to connect to a laptop is pop off the top speaker cover. If you choose to do the same any extension will do from ebay but if you want the RDS-TMC accesory to work you will need an extension where all 5 pins are wired(most only have 4 of the 5 wired) Dont rely on tomtom support to tell you that, been there done that and wasted a lot of time!

I'm really pleased with the result, easy job with great results thanks to this forum

To the person who sent me the private message, sorry apparently I can't reply until I've done 3 posts! However you'll find the answer earlier in this thread I think or on one of the otherthreads on this theme

This looks great, but beyond my capabilities.

Anyone know a garage in the Glasgow area which might be able to do this?
