If you don't mind me asking, how much did you pay for it?

When people say 'full sized' spare wheel, do they mean the SAME wheel as fitted to the car i.e. a 17", 18" or 19" alloy? I have an HSE with 18" alloys but the spare is a brand new, unused (so I'm assuming this was supplied with the car) 17" steel wheel. Is this what is meant by a full size spare? Do they do space savers for these cars? Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto

I paid £135 for a 17" alloy the same as the original new. I paid £80 for a tyre fitted. I have heard that if you purchase a spare wheel at the point of ordering a new vehicle, a spare wheel is £180. |

Early Freelanders came with a spare wheel which was usually mounted on a 17 inch steel wheel and limited to a maximum of 50 mph. Later Freelanders came with either a can of tyre repair gunk and an inflator or the option of a full sized spare wheel which was mounted on the same alloy wheel and was the same size as the wheels and tyres fitted to the car. I think the change took place in 2010 (MY2011) but may have been earlier.

Sorry for not introducing myself first, but can this be correct? Surely you can't run on a 17" spare with 18" wheels on the car. Would it not put a huge strain on the rear diff if on the back or on the Haldex? |

All the Freelander 2 wheels have the same rolling diameter, it makes no difference if you are on 17" or 19" wheels the wall is is a lower profile on the larger wheels, so you can fit any size of the genuine wheels and the speedo will still read the same. |

I have been looking for a 19" alloy for my HSE, but the cheapest I've found is £200 for a wheel and tyre. The only problem is that it was pick up only and I didn't fancy driving all the way to Southhampton just for a spare wheel. |

Yes seen it, where was one a couple of weeks ago which made £150. The style of the spokes is the same as mine but some have the smoked finish as opposed to the Silver Sparkle |

Discussed before (last year I think) - all the wheels have the same diameter when fitted with the correct tyre. It's perfectly legal to have different sized wheels!!! I think the supplied spare is always 17". Odd 17" ones come up from time to time, other sizes tend to come in sets. The steel spares were always 17" and came with two different tyre sizes - apparently at random. If buying on ebay note that FR1 wheels DO NOT fit the FR2. |

Hi Tigerbob, Does the 17" spare fit in the boot ok height wise? The reason I ask is: - 1. I've had a flat this morning and put the steel spare on and the boot floor didn't seem to sit right with the alloy in the boot well. (Could have been tyre distortion i.e the flat bit). 2. Thinking of getting an alloy as the motorway journey to work at 50mph is a pain in the ![]() Cheers, Jason Discovery 4 HSE - Aintree Green Freelander 2 TD4 SE Automatic - Tonga Green Defender XS - Tonga Green - Gone Now Freelander 1 Td4 ES Manual - Epsom Green - Gone Now * Freelander 1 Td4 Kalahari SE - Epsom Green - Gone Now Freelander 1 XEi - Epsom Green - Gone Now www.greenlandrover.uk |
