I am considering buying a Freelander 2. ADVICE PLEASE.

Hello all. My name is Ben and I am considering buying a Freelander 2. Around a 2008/2009 model. I am a complete novice but will be buying from an authorised dealer if i get one.

Can anyone tell me what they get MPG out of theres? How much to fill a tank? Service costs etc?

I drive 350 miles each week. This is all motorway miles. From Sussex to Suffolk. Fri and Sun driving. I am also a steady driver.

Any advice would be great. Many Thanks.

B

England 2011 Freelander 2 TD4 XS Manual Baltic Blue

Welcome to the Forum.

2008/09 model Freelander 2 will have a 2.2 litre engine producing 160 bhp.
I owned a 2007 manual and got about 35 mpg in mixed A/B road driving, slighly more on dual carriageways/motorways at a steady speed. Fuel tank is 68 litres although it is possible to squeeze a couple more litres in if you are persistent.
Service costs depend on whether you use a Main Dealer or Independent. Not cheap if you use a Dealer, in the region of 」350 for an A Serice, 」450 for a B (but heavily dependent on where in the UK you live).

If you stretch to a 2011 MY you get the option of a 2.2 litre engine with either 150 bhp (TD4) and 190 bhp (SD4).
TD4 comes as either manual or auto, SD4 is auto only. TD4 manual will give you (officially) 45 mpg, TD4 and SD4 auto will give you (officially) 40 mpg. In practice both will be about 5 mpg lower than the official figures, more if driven hard.

Hello people. Many thanks for the reply. The model I am going to look at tomorrow Smile is a 2010 (59 plate) TD4e S.32000 miles. Its from a main dealer etc. Any tips? Any more info on what MPG I could hope to achieve etc?

Is the service plan that the dealers offer a good deal? I plan to keep this for a good few years..

Hopefully will be the proud owner of a freelander 2 soon Smile Smile Smile Smile Smile Smile Smile Smile Smile Smile Smile Smile Smile Smile Smile

Mines a 08 GS auto 53000 miles, over all it i get 30 mpg.I wouldnt say i drive it hard but niether do hang about.A good run out on A roads i get 34/35 as a rule.
Autos do use abit more but i find its more than worth the extra bit of fuel they use.

United Kingdom 2013 Freelander 2 SD4 HSE Lux Auto Baltic Blue

To those thinking about buying one, I offer this simple advice.

I have owned solely Vauxhalls for the last 23 years, and have always loved them. I bought a FL2 in October last year, without even test driving it. It continues to astound me even after 4 months. It's the most capable vehicle I have ever owned. I love it, and would buy another one in a heartbeat. It needed to offer something special to tempt me away from Vx, and just sitting in one in the showroom was good enough for me.

Good luck Very Happy Foraging near Gaydon....

2013 Freelander 2 TD4 GS Auto Santorini Black

Make sure you give the clutch a good test. 6th gear around 2000rpm and floor it. Watch the rev counter as well.
Any sign of slippage - get the dealer to replace the clutch and/or flywheel or walk away and find another.

Also make sure you are happy with the gearshift. Seems to vary a fair bit between Freelanders. Some are super light and smooth when driving and others less so. ie difficult to change smoothly in 1st and 2nd.

Other than that - fantastic vehicles. Highly recommended. (Coming) 2016 RR Evoque td4 180 HSE Dynamc
(Going) 2013 TD4 GS Auto - Santorini Black with black leather. Cold Climate, UK Lighting & Armrest Packs. Privacy Glass. LR Rubber Mats. Full size spare.
60 000 miles averaging 35mpg

(Gone) 2010 TD4 Manual GS - Stornoway Grey. Sold at 3yrs old & 64k miles. Final average consumption 39.2mpg.

Thanks for all the tips. I'm hoping to achieve late 30 to 40 MPG on a run. Thats on a 155 mile trip on A road (dual carriageway and motorways. Mostly flat.

The car I am looking at is a manual as well.

I'll be sure to test the 6th gear thanks.

I'm hearing such good things about the Freelander 2 Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

Hello, I'm new to the forum and have to say there is a lot of useful information on here. I'm after some advice on an imminent purchase of a new FL2 dynamic/HSE.

I'm trying to get an idea on how much discount I should be targeting from the dealer, various broker sites are claiming over 12%. Is this realistic? And can anyone recommend a dealer in West Yorkshire where they've heard keen deals can be had? FL2 HSE SD4, black, privacy glass, spoiler, 19' diamond cut alloys.

i know a someone who said that he got a great deal from Farnells Leeds, & others that said Farnells Guisley, also some one who got a great deal from Copleys, Halifax,

I got a good deal from Armstrong Massey, York, and I also got a good deal from Sponsors Lookers Park Royal 3 years or so ago, but the chap i dealt with now works at the other forum sponsors Hadley Green (ask for James) Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis
