The added pressure that I have is that my wife will be the main driver and we will be part exchanging a perfectly good low mileage (21k) 3 year old Golf that we have owned from new. It's a 2 door though and we need a 4 door as our personal circs have changed - always seem to be running the mum in law about plus the addition of a family dog. The pressure is that my wife is telling me, half jokingly (I hope), "Don't you swap my cow for some magic beans"! Pressure. Shocked

Similar here Steve , I have a 2011 Kuga 163 AWD 14000 from new ( cruise/heated screen/climate/rev sensors/detach towbar/privacy glass etc ) and looking to swop to a F2 , and know it will have to be 2010 F2 with perhaps lower spec and more miles .
Looking for the right car to turn up .

Julian

2011 Freelander 2 SD4 XS Auto Galway Green

Likewise, I'm looking to trade in a 2010 Alfa Mito with about 30k on the clock, for a FL2 HSE which'll be about the same age or a bit older and with probably higher mileage than my current car. Just need something bigger and more robust for my lifestyle these days.

I'm scanning autotrader every day for the perfect one...hopefully we're not going to be competing for the same one! Seems to be quite a decent number constantly coming on the market.

It feels a bit odd plunking down a whole chunk of cash for an older car that's seen more road! But I fear the lure of the FL2 has got me in her grips Smile

I could drop down to an XS and the prob get a 2011 with lower mileage. (correction) the gf likes the sunroof tho!

Decisions, decisions.

Steve.........GO FOR IT!! You have not mentioned the age, or more
importantly the colour!! Rolling with laughter

Seriously though, you are a mechanic. Has the car got a full service
history?

I bought mine 12 months ago, fell in love with it straight away (colour
I suppose - stornaway grey Laughing ) One previous owner, 112,000 miles
and I love it. Fantastic vehicle Thumbs Up

At the end of the day, you get what you pay for.

I bought mine with 69k on the clock. Whist I would've preferred something lower mileage, with the budget I had, it would've meant a lower spec. I was reassured by it being a single owner ex-lease vehicle with full LR service history. Well maintained and cared for vehicles will go a long way.

I was also in the same position of trading in a newer, lower mileage car and having to put cash towards it. No regrets though, but I am Land Rover addict.

2008, Stornaway grey (the best colour!) 71K on the clock, FLRSH to 60,000 so I suppose next service is not due for another 4K. but if I do get it tomorrow I'll be giving it a major service and a complete transmission oil change straight away. I think I would have been frightened of one wth 112K on it but my Brother in law has got an 04 Freelander 1 TD4 which I serviced and mot'd the other day. It drove well and I was surprised to see that it had 137K on the clock so I'm assuming the FL2 is even better built.

The Sunday Times has a competition to win a Cooper works Mini roadster worth 25K. The only problem I have is which car will I get rid of if I win it? My 5 year old LR SE or the wife's 9 year old CRV? The agreed answer is neither. The Mini would get punted rapidly. Shocked Shocked

Well, I didn't get it!

I transferred funds into my account so that I could pay the balance by card and set off to work in my Golf. On the way, I had a call from the dealer, he was due to hand over a car and would be setting off at 10.30 and was going to phone me as he was leaving. I got to work and removed all my personal possessions etc. Then I sat and waited like a bloody idiot. By 12.45, more than 2 hours after he had promised to call, I hadn't heard a dicky bird from him so I phoned him up. He was out!

I'm suspicious and suspected he could have been having trouble with my car - hence the delay. Call me old fashioned but if you are having trouble getting hold of someone to take money from you, my reckoning is that you certainly won't be able to get hold of them once they have your money in their pocket. Anyway, it's bloody rude keeping a customer waiting so he didn't get my business and he didn't get my wife's car! A simple courtesy call from him to explain the delay would have kept the sale on track.

Something didn't feel quite right. I may have been hasty but so what - I'm the customer and if he wants my hard-earned, he's got to work for it. He is not the only person selling a FL2 HSE but I was the only one so far willing to part with my cash for his car. There'll be others.

Should have listened to npinks. Whistle

Walk away Thumbs Up If your worrying about it, you will even more so when you do the deal and won't enjoy ownership

Oh, the wife is Razz about keeping the Golf a little longer as well as Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter

My quest continues. Perhaps I'll be better sticking to either a private seller or a main dealer who may act more professionally.

Think you made the right decision Steve , but what bad manners from the dealer , I am sure the right one will turn up and you will look back and think yes I am glad I cancelled .
I rang a main dealer at 9am this morn , general enquiry re s/h FL2 , sales are busy but will ring back shortly , gone 3pm and no call.

*Update 7pm never got a return call
