What about the Amsoil oils ? Does anybody used them ? It seems Amsoil is the best in engineering of the fully synthetic oils.

Hello guys!

I made some research between engine oils, and now I'd like to get confirmed my checklist for the oil exchange:
1/ one LR2 Filter Set (includes Oil filter and Drain plug gasket; I ordered the set, because I'm about to change all filters),
2/ a 500ml Engine Flush, one from this list:
- LIQUI MOLY PRO-LINE - 500ml (I couldn't find anything else),
3/ 6l of 5W-30 engine oil, one from this list:
- Castrol MagnaTech A1,
- Elf EVOLUTION SXR,
- Total Quartz Future 9000,
- Total Quartz Future NFC 9000,
- Shell HELIX Ultra AF,
- Shell HELIX HX7 AF,
- Ford FORMULA F,
- LIQUI MOLY LEICHTLAUF SPECIAL,
- LIQUI MOLY LEICHTLAUF SPECIAL F,
- BP VISCO 5000 FE.

Could you suggest another engine flush and/or oil?

Thanks. Smile Csaba.

Correct oil?

Hello, i just done my first time oil change service. it was bit hard to get the filter removed Smile.
Tools which i used to remove the filter, i didnt have flexible ratchet spanner, but normal spanner yes.
i didnt use it all, i used some specia Belt tool where is rubber belt which i will tight up.

im wondering the oil which i used, the oil FORD Formula-E 5W30 WSS-M2C913-C ACEA A5/B5 in back of the oil bottle

i hope this is the right one?

If your car does not have a DPF then yes that was the correct oil spec.

Should not have a DPF, 160horse powers, and 2007 model. How to confirm this

There was 8000km ago service. Didnt use land rovers service just normal garage and they changed MOBIL 1 0W-30 FUEL ECONOMY , that was kind wierd why they used that.. it was like water when i removed the sump!

I know early export models had them but don't know what year it started.

1) If your exhaust tip is 'sooty', it probably doesn't have a DPF.
2) Register with LR Topix and enter your cars VIN number, it will list your cars specification (registration is free for this)
3) Get under the car and if Item 10 is missing then there is no DPF.

Oil change

If you cut some of the black plastic out above the towing eye it allows the plastic to drop further out of the way and gives better access to the duct and the filter housing. I used a 15mm hole saw and cut a hole above each side of the loop and trimmed it off with a saw blade. Quck fix but makes the job slightly easier.

How much oil do you need after a filter change?

United Kingdom 2008 Freelander 2 TD4 GS Manual Sumatra Black

Hi guys, a small question for the knowledgeable chaps on here.

I'm carrying out an oil change on my 2008 FL2. I removed the old oil filter and snapped the new one into position. I noticed after doing this that the filter has about maybe 5mm of float within the housing. Does this sound right, or have I misplaced a spacer or washer?

Many thanks for any help offered.

Jon.

Drain plug

Drain plug needed a 21mm socket, couldn't see mention of that here, could save someone a trip to the motor factors mid job...

Can't be a mid job problem... No socket, not oil out, so the car still drives.... Wink
Ah... don't tell me you first removed the filter and only then decided to drop the oil?... Very Happy

Ha, no, always do the engine oil drain first (unless on something where there's a filler/level plug and it's prudent to at least check that can be undone first!).

I like to be sure I have everything I need before I start a job I've not done before, hence I though a heads up on the 21mm socket could be helpful to someone- it's not a size I've ever needed before on any other vehicle.

Thumbs Up

From my small experiences on working on the car they do seem to like using the odd sized mm's instead of the evens.
