Brake Hoses

Want to change the flexible brake hoses but can't get the old ones undone. I have a set of brake pipe spanners but they don't appear to fit. Rolling Eyes
Trying to undo the rigid pipe union and 10mm is too small and 11mm appears to be too big. Don't want to risk damaging the flats.
Any advice would be grateful.
Thanks. Very Happy Now at the point when I learn something new something old is lost out the other side !
Now retired so it doesn't matter anymore.

Try an AF spanner - if you can borrow one - those who look after older Landrovers (pre-defender) will have some probably. Jules

I have a selection of self tightening tools which have proved invaluable in these situations. The two at the bottom of the picture are spring loaded and seem to be able to shift anything without too much damage to the nut

Thanks for the replys.
I have some old AF spanners non of them seem to fit either. Its not as if the nuts are rusted or anything as I keep these sort of things clean. Honestly they look like new.
I like the look of the self locking spanner though. Just seen something similar on eBay and ordered it. Will give that a try next week when it comes.
Its just frustrating that all four are the same neither 10mm or 11mm.
I had specifically planned to do this today as its the 'great north run' and I can't get out as the roads around me are closed, some from 5.00am.

I do hope Brendon Foster and his Novo International make lots of money again from the runners. Evil or Very Mad Now at the point when I learn something new something old is lost out the other side !

If you are using open ended spanners its a big no no. Find some ring spanners like this.

Hi Bob
That's exactly what I have been trying to use. I have a set of brake pipe spanners just like them. Unfortunately the 10mm will not go on and the 11mm appears slack. Never had this happen on other cars. Wouldn't surprise me if JLR have their own unique size just to be different ( was going to say something different but it would have been deleted). Tap lightly on the 10mm and see if that gets a fit. FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

Sorry Bob, doesn't help. Tried to upload a photo of the spanner I've ordered but it wouldn't work.
I'll wait and see how that works out when it arrives. Now at the point when I learn something new something old is lost out the other side !

Well got a spanner to fit and now I'm totally b Censored d.
Whilst undoing the union on the front nearside between the flexible pipe and the rigid one, the rigid pipe twisted and split. Big Cry
I'm now off the road until I can get this fixed. Tried to follow the pipe back but it just disappears into the bulk head. Can't find any info in the manual as to its route so I'm having a stress break before I start to pull the thing to bits. Easy fix but you need beg steal or borrow a flaring tool. Cut out pipe where you can access it, flare on new union and make new short section to fit and link with original spot. As long as its clipped in and not able to be caught or vibrate its going to quite legal. Come on Gasman you are up for this. Thumbs Up Did this on a fiat Tipo on main line to rear inside the engine bay.

Pipes not expensive but you need correct size of course.
