Has anyone got a current copy of the Maintenance Check Sheet for EU? All the links and copies I can find in the gallery are of a 2008 document. (Bit reluctant to pay over £6 to download two pages from Topix).

Thanks

Hi Gravon
That's precisely the point - what, if any, are the differences?

There are often changes made by the manufacturer in light of experience and technical developments - for example the 2008 EU non arduous schedule calls for 15,000 mile or annual services and this seems to have been stretched now to 16,000 miles or annually judging from the receipt for my first service.

Are there any other differences as a result of things which have changed since 2008. eg electric handbrake, more powerfull diesel engine.

There is no air filter listed on the invoice for my 13MY which has just been serviced. I would be very surprised if it has to be changed at every service in this country.

There again on my invoice they have listed what appears to be the wrong pollen filter - the non pollution sensor version for my HSE LUX. Could be just an invoicing error or have they fitted the wrong filter?

Anyone know how to tell visually the difference between pollen filter types?

They are probably using the wrong service sheet as the 13my sheet clearly states to change it.

I thought it was available for free on Topix, but haven't checked. Yes the service is now 16000 miles (service sheet dated 11/7/2012). There is therefore no 105000 service. However 105000 would have been 8 years, which is a normal B service.
Yes air cleaner element now features on every service.
The extra items are
brake fluid change every 3 years if required, brake flex hoses every 6 years,
cam belt and aux drive belt every 9 years/144000 miles
transmission oil every 10 years/160000, manual and auto
coolant every 10 years Ex AA Series III LWB Safari - Gone
300TDi Disco (bought new - terrible car) sent back after 18 months
Freelander 1 Estate - leased, given back at end of lease
200TDi Disco (bought from a mate with 100,000 on the clock) - Gone
Disco 2 TD5 - sold and exported to France
FR2 TD4 GS - Gone
FR2 SD4 HSE - Now changed for a DS
New model ex-demo Evoque S 180 in white
Unable to order a new DS, so gave up. Now have a Volvo S90 Recharge.

Ive just had my 6 years/90k B service at Stratstone in Nottingham.

I checked as best as possible what the service covered and it said brake hose would be changed. However when I asked the dealer if they had changed the hoses they said they hadnt as its not part of the service and would cost several hundred pounds to change the hoses. Mine didnt need it so they didnt change it.............

Have I been mugged by Stratstone ?? Rolling Eyes

The version of the service schedule I have does say to replace flexible brake hoses at 6 years, as an extra cost item. Personally, however, if they showed no signs of wear or deterioration I'd leave them. (That's not a recommendation, just what I would do! Plus I give mine a quick look over twice a year when I change between the summer and winter tyres.)

cheers for the info Pab

Im always a bit worried going to main dealers for the first time in case they try and short cut things.

The indy garage where I usually go told me about a customer who took his new RRS to a main dealer, and marked all the bolts/threads etc with tippex as a measure. When it came back from service none of the bolts had been moved, when they should have been. LR dealer admitted they had not done as they should and serviced it again for free.

Stratstone did pick up on a brake hose clip that had previously been broken and 'fixed' with a cable tie (left it as it was still secure and not a problem) and a slight leak from the upper sump gasket but nothing to worry about at this time.

Either way doesnt deter me from loving my Freelander Very Happy

I take those stories about main dealers with a pinch of salt, especially when told by an indy!

Here's a real story that happened to me at a local indy last year (who I won't name), when I took my Freelander 1 in for a cambelt and timing belt change.

After the work was done, I asked if they had changed the tensioner pulley or idler pulley, but was told they didn't need it. About 4 months and only 1,000 miles later I was driving along, just off the motorway luckily, when there was an almighty bang and the engine stopped. With assistance from the AA we diagnosed that the tensioner pulley had disintegrated, and the cambelt had almost, but not quite, slipped off the cam sprocket. It must have jumped a few teeth, but not enough to destroy the engine - just enough to stop it firing.

Bad luck, you may say? I did all the repair work myself and found that not only had the tensioner puller disintegrated, the idler pulley was just about to. More annoyingly, the cambelt itself had clearly not been replaced - it was exceedingly worn and had probably done at least 50,000 miles - and nor had the timing pump belt.

In other words, the indy garage had quite blatantly taken my money and done absolutely nothing whatever to the car.

Moral of the story? (a) do all maintenance work yourself if you can, (b) stand and watch the garage working on your car if you can't do it yourself, (c) use tippex, marker pens or whatever to put marks on and demand to see any bits they take off and claim to have replaced.
