Hear what your saying Tim but in this instance it's an indy that I trust implicitly and have used for a number of years after a strong recommendation. Unfortunately not all indy garages are honest, and not all main dealers of any manufacturer do it right every time. Possibly due to the extremely tight profit margins they work to.

I take my Freelander to the independent Land Rover garage I used to work at, and trust him implicitly. Our other car goes to a different indy, and trust them likewise, after using them for 10 years. I also used to work for a franchised dealer, and have a similarly good experience of them too, having seen how they work "from the inside" so as to speak.
There are good and bad on both sides, but personal recommendations are the way to go in my opinion.
