Saw a TCensoredt driving a Corsa Van at about 40mph on compacted snow, he was coming towards me, he clipped the snow on the verge, that pulled him on to the verge and he parallel parked it in the bottom of the hedge, I slowed down, asked by hand signals if he wanted a coffee and left him to it, not going to stop and put myself at risk and help someone who got what they deserved. My drive home earlier and got the opposite, 10mph drivers on 0.5cm of snow which wasn't on the road, but on the path which for some reason thought was going to jump off and get under their tyres Rolling Eyes Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

I was embarrassed following a 2011 FL2 over the south downs this morning. The driver was pannicking and driving at about 5mph on wet roads, with snow in the air but not settling.
I was directly behind the FL2, and up my chuff was a double decker bus who getting impatient following this slow pair of
4 x 4's !

If it wasn't for the blind bends and double whites I would have overtaken the other FL2 but it wasn't safe, so I had to follow and remain embarrassed for ten miles. _________________

Had to laugh at the media hysteria and hype - after what has been a thoroughly forecast moderate to heavy snowfall which will probably be gone in a few days. On the BBC news one reporter was aghast at "temperaures PLUMMETING to MINUS ONE DEGREE c."
Plummeting? Crikey that is not much of plummet! Rolling Eyes
At least the BBC did acknowledge the value of 4x4s in our savage arctic MInus 1 - nice lady drivng a Defender doing hospital patient runs.

Our 4x4 Response outfit have been very busy. We have responded to calls from the police, fire brigade NHS and county councils. We have mainly been ferrying key personnel around. It still strikes me as odd that we should be needed, especially as one would have thought the lessons would have been learned from last time when the snow was much worse than this. John

They are probably not allowed their own ones as the CO2 is too high to have in their own fleet - something LR need to address

FL2 "normal" tyres are M & S (Mud & Snow) rated.

Presumably they are only for use during summer snow Whistle Now: 2012 FL2 SD4 XS Orkney Grey

M&S doesn't mean to much, the Conti Cross Contacts are M&S rated and are carp in Snow not over good in the rain, I just leave them in the shed from November through to March.

If anyone is interested this is what I have in case of bad snow or ice. Only ever used them to see how good they are, but having got them cheap brand new of eBay a few years back they are a great back up.

I must say I have been very impressed with the FL2 in its first winter. Yes I do have winter tyres which helps but frankly the snow might as well not be there. Driving with big snow boots on would be awkward with a manual (been there done that) but just slot it into D, engage GGS or simply normal mode at times, and relax.

Compacted snow and ice, slushy stuff easy. Came home from town and the neighbour had cleared his drive so he could get out and piled the snow onto the grass verge. I wanted to reverse onto the drive so I ploughed into the piled up snow, put it into reverse and it was like I was driving on tarmac, simple reverse with no fuss.

Great car at the best of times. In snow, it really is king of the hill Thumbs Up 60 plate SD4 XS, Stornoway Grey, Arm rest pack
