General Grabber Tyres???

General Grabbers AT or UHP? Any comments or observations?
Looking to put 4 new corners on my TD4 XS MY11.
29,000 in 2 years on Conti M +S which isnt bad but looking for better wet/snow grip plus confidence off road or pulling a large van.
Seen good reviews for the Grabber AT but wonder if they're a bit hard /noisy for road use? Tend to be mainly road work with occaisonal off road/ green laning so thought the UHP might be a better bet?
Any thoughts worth taking into account?

How did you find them on the road?
I'm a bit worried fuel consumption will suffer and the UHP might be a better bet as I do more road miles?
The AT's look good but maybe a bit too off road for a townie??

It made no difference at all to the mpg.The new ones have a different tread pattern.

Thumbs Up Walnad, would highly recommend getting the "General Grabber AT", had them on my last 4x4 and found them fantastic, they made light work of the bad snowfall of 2010, whilst other 4x4 drivers thought they were invincible and came off the road.

As regards road noise, i did`nt find them any louder than previous tyres i`ve used so unless you have very acute hearing this should`nt be a problem. So IMHO i found them an ideal mix for both on and off road, plus they look nice and chunky and imposing.

So yeah go for it get the "Grabbers", also found they wore evenly to........ Thumbs Up

I have General Grabber AT2s on my Disco, no noticable noise increase. (but then a disco is slightly
noiser anyway). Great off road and seem to stop well in wet on road an area where all terrains usually are not so good. I have the old pattern which have over 1cm of tread and are usually claimed to last at least 40,000 miles.

When my wranglers wear on my freelander I would consider AT2 for that, cost permitting

The AT2 doesn't seem to be available in the standard FL2 17" size (235/65/17), however, the AT is. I'm currently thinking of ATs for my next change. I had them years ago on an Isuzu and found them very good then - hopefully even better now.

Had 4 General grabber AT 235/65/R17 108H XL fitted back in december, no noticeable increase in noise or fuel consumption, replaced the original conti's, they certainly seem to shift standing water a lot better. There is a thread here: http://www.freel2.com/forum/topic12817.html

Landy: Why best tyre ever?
Performnce? Price? What do you like about them?
I'm a bit concerned they might not be suitable for me as I do mostly road work M'way etc.

I mainly do road work these days, I drive my car hard and they handle well.

Price varies prob £115 fitted

They are awesome if you do venture into the muddy stuff and really good in the snow. Defo the best tyre I have had on the freelander, you should get 35,000 out of them too

Wrong the best tyre ever was the no longer available Wrangler MT/R

Brilliant in mud, even better on snow, made more noise than motorhead, and lasted ages because it was ridiculously deep tread when new - standard for G4
Side walls more puncture resistant than a nuns knickers.

Ok they don't like white lines above 70mph - keep off the white lines Shocked

No longer available in UK (& Europe?) due to new stupid noise regulations. Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her
Replaced by Ewok what a mistake - now a happy Disco Sport owner

I had them - and was not overly impressed - to such a degree I would never buy another set, and If i changed
car and they came supplied I would remove them immediatly
Compared to vredstrein Wintracs, good year Ultrasnow, or P Zero's they had very poor grip on damp roads.
though were excellent in the mud, or on grass.
I found them very noisy

If I recall correctly I had 255 55 18's on standard 18" rims
fuel economy worst than Goodyear Ultragrip.
I also found them very soft round the bends.

just my 2 pennies worth ..

each to their own.

they did look the part though Smile
