It's worth doing the wiring, even if all you do is run the supplied cable down to the front lighter socket. You'll soon get tired of having to charge the battery and turn the camera on and off every trip. Then when you really need it the battery will have gone flat and you'll have missed the shot. Battery life obviously varies between models, but it can be as little as a few minutes. Best I've seen claimed is around 1-2 hours (very small sample size!), but as ever such claims must be taken with a pinch of salt!

Wiring a car camera in makes it fit-and-forget. It will start recording automatically when you start the car, and stop recording when you stop it. Apart from checking every so often that it's still working you don't need to touch it, and it will be there and working when you need it.

Wiz. Buying blind, and you can't help wondering how good it is for that price.

I like it, as I said, it's not up there with the roadhawk etc, but it videos what happens.

That's my thinking bish, and had mine for over 2 years now. You will need a good SD card class 10 (32 gig I recommend) and a longer USB lead to run to front power aux.

There's a place near where i work and they sell class 10 32gb reasonably cheap, so I'll get one for when it arrives.
At that price you could put one in the back as well, but after this mornings drive, you'd need to keep washing the rear screen and not just wiping it for it to work properly.

I haven't tried it in the car yet (it just arrived this morning) but I'll post some video when I have.

It wasn't quite what I was originally looking for (something smaller and screenless), but I couldn't find what I wanted for a reasonable price, and I liked the idea of front and back cameras recording to the same device. In principle it can even be used as a reversing camera, but I think the screen may prove a bit too small for that.
